Michael Katsidis used his brutal power and big fight experience to knock out previously unbeaten Kevin Mitchell in London overnight to retain his interim WBO belt. Mitchell had no answer as the Aussie landed a sharp left hook in the third round and followed up with further big shots, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
Mitchell started reasonably well, using his jab to good effect in the first couple of rounds. Katsidis was content to stalk his opponent, landing the odd power shot before his success with the powerful left hook. Katsidis was jubilant.
"It's fantastic, it's been an absolute pleasure. You've got 30,000 people here, I would just hope one day these people could come and support me.”
"I'm just going to enjoy my title, I am the world champion."
