View Full Version : UFC 66
This is a loaded card...
-UFC 66: DECEMBER 30 IN LAS VEGAS
Main Card Bouts:
-Chuck Liddell (#1 Light Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Tito Ortiz (#7 Light Heavyweight)*
-Andrei Arlovski (#6 Heavyweight)* vs. Marcio "Pe de Pano" Cruz
-Forrest Griffin vs. Keith Jardine
-Michael Bisping vs. Eric Schafer
-Chris Leben vs. Jason MacDonald
This isn't some typical boxing 'Main Event and a bunch of crap' card, this card is stacked with 5 good matchups. You have the two biggest Light Heavyweights in America in a rematch in Liddell\Tito 2.
You have the former Heavyweight Champion starting his comeback against Cruz, who KO'd the man who submitted the man in UFC.
You have Forrest Griffin, arguably the UFC's most exciting fighter against TUF 2's Keith Jardine. If Forrest wins, look for him to face Tito in a rematch sometime in 2007.
You have the winner of TUF 3 Michael Bisping in his first match since winning the finals.
And in what could be the most interesting match of the night, Chris Leben against Jason Macdonald. Leben has that 'Tommy Morisson' mystique to him, and he can bang with the best of them, but as Anderson Silva proved, his chin is a bit suspect too. And Macdonald is coming off of his upset over Jens Pulver, and looking to make it two in a row.
A great card from top to bottom.

It's an okay card. The Athlete vs. Leben is very interesting, so is Liddell/Ortiz and Griffin/Jardine should be a fun fight.
I am not interested in Arlovski and Bisbing.

Griffin vs Jardine has the makings of FOTY. That should be just brutal. We all know how tough Griffin is...but if he stands with Jardine, he might very well die.
Arlovski will slaughter that homo Brazilian. Won't even be competetive, IMO.
Liddell v Ortiz II is exciting in that you have a top light heavy, vs. a guy nobody likes. Personally, I don't care who wins, because Liddell doesn't set my world on fire either.
Rest of the card seems ok. I always enjoy watching Leben go at it with someone. I guess next time someone yells "KNEE!" at him though, maybe he understands what to do about it.

At least it's better then boxing where there's barely anyone good enough to even be considered #7 in their weight class, much less #1.

Leben vs. McDonald.
That should be a good fight.
Anyways after the main event what fight is actually worth watching?
All of them.
Griffin\Jardine should be a war, Leben is always entertaining, Bisping is having his first UFC fight since winning the TUF final and he's 11-0 winning every fight by KO or submission, and it should be interesting to see how Arlovski fares in his first fight back since losing the belt then the rematch to Tim Sylvia.
Seriously, this is a good card, much better then the next UFC PPV on Superbowl weekend, when you'll see Silva and GSP walk through Lutter in Serra in a pair of mismatches.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the #7 ranking is in the world, putting Ortiz nearer to #2 or #3 in the UFC, which is the only available fights for Lidell.
Besides, everyone wants to see this fight happen regardless of what the ranking is.

Tam would be happy to know the beginning of the end was when Tito "got stupid" with Chuck. Tam has said it time and again, dont get stupid with Chuck, because Chuck is great at getting stupid....for his lack of technical boxing skill, when the bombs start flying, Chuck has incredible accuracy, vision, and poise
Bisping has to fight not to lose, then Shafer gassed and Bisping took advantage
The athlete looked great, kid is impressive.
Nice shot while sitting on his ass by Arlovski. I was kind of wanting to see the footlock war
Jardin and Griffen was a great fight, as advertised. Jardine's left hook looks sharp. Forrest was beside himself after the fight, sobbing like a woman in the corner.

His right hand was comical. Just listen to him in the post fight interview. I tried. He didn't even once try to take Chuck down whether he could or not isn't the issue. If you are a ground and pound guy, you don't strike with a guy who is undisputedly a better striker. If you "try" at least "try" to win the only way you can. I am sure Tita will say he was trying to take Chuck deep and drown him, but he didn't work in there. Tito didn't even want to win. My point is, even when he fought scared he still got knocked out. Why not try to knock the other guy out.

Secondly, no way did Forrest beat Tito.....A draw, probably, but he did not beat him.....The first round was 10-8 Tito, therefore the best result for Forrest was a draw.....
Third, why would you think someone would just walk through Jardine, esp Forrest, who arguably lost to Bonnar when Bonnar, in all fairness, actually lost to Jardine.....Jardine is a tough mother at 205, and is a guy who is game enough to hang in with almost anyone

One, what the fuck does the fact that chuck can be outboxed have to do with what I wrote. Tito shouldn't have tried to strike with him.
Secondly, fine a draw or whatever, but I just thought Forrest would win. Garden, I refuse to Frenchify his name, is a decent fighter. I just didn't put much thought into the fight. I was just surprised that's all. Garden has the worst nickname in the history of martial arts/boxing except for SugarPooh and that is more of a draw. I hope he misread it. Ask Rampage if Chuck is the best striker in the world. :jester: :jester:thats kind of my point Ike....Rampage outboxed Chuck....In their first fight, Randy outboxed Chuck....its not unheard of for someone to outbox Chuck, but when guys start to brawl with him, thats when they get caught.....I think Tito was trying to follow the same plan that won those fights for Chuck and Quinton, he's just not as good a boxer as those guys....
To try to just shoot double legs all night would have been as pointless as trying to out slug Chuck.....Tito had a plan, which to some degree had worked for other fighters in the past, he just couldnt come through on it

He was too terrified to be disciplined. And Rampage didn't outbox shit. He straight up beat Chuck down. I just rewatched that last night. My friend was going on and on about Chuck and I was like he ain't unbeatable and I showed him the rampage fight. Rampage just walked him down. Rampage has a great jab. I wonder how he'd do in the boxing ring. His jab is pretty damn good. It looks like a telephone pole.

Yeah, saw one of them and with boxing gloves on his jab looked amazing. I meant American Boxing, but yeah the K-1 slipped my mind.
