"I will come with the same excitement of always. I know it will be a difficult fight because he is young, strong, aggressive and fast, but I have experience on my side and I want to be the undisputed king of the 135lb division."

" Now I feel more mature. I don't fight for money because thank GOD, I invested intelligently."

"I'm not looking past Diaz, but it was always my dream to win the WBC belt, whoever is holding it would be next in line."

"I will win but don't ask me how. The next step would be the WBC title. It's my biggest dream and I will achieve it later this year."

"Diaz is a kamikaze in the ring. He doesn't have power but great volume of punches. I will not be in front of him too long or else he will run me over. The counter will be the key which is one of my strengths."

Why did this require a separate thread?

Currently there are two threads on the upcoming fight. One is the prediction, the other is Diaz will send Freitas into retirement. So I thought appropriate to start a new one with info from translation from a couple online articles from a nonEnglish guy in the biggest fight of the weekend.

If admin doesn't feel it useful or informative to our members, I'm sure they will close it with no problems from me.

freitas is very under-rated as a counter-puncher. he WILL land big on Diaz. the question, can he get him out of there.

Frietas has REALLY lost his nutsack if he's scared of trading with a feather-fist like Diaz. I could understand him running from Chico, but Diaz? With Frietas' superior power, and straighter punches he should HOPING for a war. Instead he's just gonna run, and hope to land one big counter. And if it doesnt work, he'll be shit outta luck. Now I'm REALLY picking Diaz!

I can understand your point of view. I think what he wants to do is TRAP Diaz into a counter and hurt him in a way to knock him out or put him in check so he could proceed to OUTBOX him.

If he could trap him once, he could set it up again. The UPPERCUT is a good punch to use on Diaz.

Most ALL elite fighters are CAUTIOUS. Barrera, Hopkins, Mayweather are CAUTIOUS. Roy was CAUTIOUS. Lennox was CAUTIOUS.

If he hurts him badly, you'll see the Freitas of old, really opening up.

X, let me add that being gun shy is one thing and using the counter as strategy is another.

There are fighters who go in to survive and barely do anything ala Raheem against Freitas.

If Freitas doesn't THINK he can win, he has no business being in the ring. That's when you get seriously hurt.

Diaz is EXPECTING that. Mayweather is a master at ALTERNATING gameplans. He could be dodging and weaving for 4 straight rounds then all of a sudden he comes inside to do damage to the body. Freitas needs to alternate between jabbing, moving and throwing the counter right hand to meeting Diaz in the center of the ring for the WAR you metioned. Just as long HE is dictating the pace. I'll fight on the inside when I want to.

Cautious CONFIDENCE goes a long way...

Fighter you're talking crap, x is right.

If the freitas of old came in, he would simply outgun and knock diaz the fuck out. Without a doubt. He has power, fast hands, aggression, good timing etc. Freitas used to be a very good fighter.

He can box a bit, but he's not exactly a master boxer either, if he is scared of trading with feather fisted Diaz, he's just going to get outworked. Unless he can turn the fight around with 1 punch, Freitas is obviously going to be on the backfoot, getting outworked.

Does Freitas have power? I sure don't think so. Not anymore, anywho. People are kidding themselves if they think this version does anything close to wreck fools like the 130 pounder, young, CONFIDENT Freitas used to do.

Ace hasn't flashed any kind of clobber in years.

Actually Tam I was thinking that myself, straight after I wrote it. When I wrote it I WAS thinking of the freitas of old, that used to launch his whole body behind that right hand.

This freitas' power is decent, but nothing special, he no longer has 1 punch power. He would have to viciously attack diaz to stop him, not bank on 1 punch.

What is your pick Tam?

Thats the way I see it. That young Freitas was raw as fuck and all he wanted to do was fight and fuck people up. He had an unorthodox style, but he was a slugger without question. He commited to everything. It wasn't natural, flowing power...the kind that use can rip out at the snap of a finger, while on the backfoot. He MEANT it.

Now he's lost that intent, I think he's lost the power. He's changed and become far less confident.

I think he can hurt Diaz, because Diaz is an idiot who thinks only about offense 99% of the time and he's wide open. Still...I don't think he can stop him unless he lands a big Juan on Diaz's chin and follows up immediately. (LOL @ my joke)

I think Diaz gets to Ace early, sets a pace he won't like and takes the fight out of him by around 5 or 6. Its up to Ace whether he hears the end of 12. Either way, I like Diaz here.

This is the PERFECT fight for Freitas to REESTABLISH himself.

He might be cautious AT FIRST. After awhile he will realize, hey I can TRADE with this fella and while I'm landing what does Diaz usually do? Covers up. He can't allow Diaz to go to his body at will. He could use lateral movement, COUNTER Diaz' lazy jab, throw straight right hands, Diaz is WIDE OPEN to be hit.

Freitas is FASTER with quicker hands. Freitas can outbox Diaz EASY. I like Freitas on points. Who has Diaz fought that has DECENT pop? If he catches Diaz with something big, he could get the KO.

Freitas: "I Want The Winner of Morales-Diaz"

http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=8431

<TABLE id=table16 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="99%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top>According to Brazilian newspaper A Tarde, former champion Acelino Freitas will continue to fight. This past Saturday, Freitas suffered the second loss of his career when he quit on his stool before the start of the ninth round of his unification bout with Juan Diaz. The fight was televised on HBO.

Freitas claims that it was his trainer, Oscar Suarez, that stopped the fight. Suarez did tell various member of the media at the post-fight press conference that he was the one who made the final call on stopping the fight because he felt that Freitas was taking too much punishment.

Freitas wants to land a fight against the winner of the upcoming lightweight title clash between champion David Diaz and Erik Morales.

"Suarez asked me if I was alright and wanted to know if I wanted him to stop the fight. I left him in charge of it, because he is experienced and knows what is better for me. I am not going to stop. I want to challenge the winner of the fight between David Diaz and Erik Morales [in August] and claim the lightweight title," Freitas said.

Freitas also has promotional company in Brazil, and hopes to secure a deal with Arthur Pelullo, Don King or Oscar De La Hoya in order to send his fighters to the United States for bigger game.

He should RETIRE today!!

If he continues to fight, he will be nothing but a NAME on people's resumes. He is probably more SHOT than Morales at this point.

He has no BASIS to continue and if he does, he seriously hurt the FIGURES he will be signing for. Off TV fights for him would be a GIFT.

He won't be a very good gatekeeper. RETIRE!

I guess Morales could make Freitas quit at the staredown.

Wait a minute, if it wasnīt a retirement lap he did on the shoulders, did he celebrate his performance? Somebody needs to take a closer look on Diaz by KO and under bets.

It was poor judgement, if it was a retirement lap, but apparently he wants to continue so what was he celebrating. Luckily Chico beat him up so badly, he couldnīt hold a parade after the fight. :shit:

Yeah, it will make a top 10 list for everyone of such things. Nigel Benn was pretty obnoxious stealing the limelight from Steve Collins after Collins kicked his ass...what makes it so ridiculous is that he didn't do it once, but twice. But it just can't top this, unfortunately.

Personally, I'd love to see Freitas redeem himself and the ONLY way he can do that is in the ring so it's nice to see that he's not thinking about retirement.

Oscar Suarez has GOT to go for there to be any chance of success. I think Floyd would be 30-5 with Suarez training him.

I don't disagree at all. Suarez is a pathetically bad trainer. He is at least partly to blaim for ruining freitas.

If he MUST continue the farce, then I agree, FIRE Suarez.

Apparently he had no problems making the weight. He needs COACHING.

Quit bad, fight back good. Quit no career, Win more money.

I can't decide if this is hilarious because it's so absurd

or

sad because it would be such an improvement over Suarez, already.

I really thought Acelino was going to be the big thing in boxing along with Floyd Maywether about five years ago, and he appeared to be heading in that direction.
I think his troubles in training really started when Oscar convinced him in collusion to not re-hire the late Ray Rodriguez.
Ray had the guy sharp as a tack in three of his fights culminating with the Casamayor victory, and Freitas' skills slid downhill after that.
Ray was a master at sharpening up a fighter, and amongst the best at working the pads.
Freitas at one time had it all: power, athleticism, killer instinct, fighting heart, and first rate boxing skill, but he went the route of Mando Ramos as far as wasted potential goes as I thought he could have developed into one of the All-Timers at one point in his career, somewhere along the lines of a Flash Elorde type of great fighter.
