I am going with Oscar by legitimate(in my mind) Split Decision. I can't watch this fight otherwise, if that makes sense. I have always been a supporter of little floyd, but everyone has to lose sometime. I expect the majority of the board to be flat out incorrrect because this will be a close fight 2 or 3 points separating it. The judges tend to try to make a story but I think to rationally minded people many rounds will be arguable.

Strange Love have you seen the latest tally:dunno:. Holly Fuck all!!! I am seriously amazed!! This is big!

All I can figure is we are getting a few more predictions from outsiders, but I can't verify this. At any rate the board has swung to Oscar and the board is a pretty good indicator for picking a fight.

I am very excited to see the final tally for this fight. I doubt it will swing far in either direction as all the info is out... people have made up their minds... except Donnybrook of course.

Looking at the poll, largely it's Oscar by KO or Mayweather by decision. Floyd's '0' is gonna go tomorrow night!

Typically, boxing fans never seem to be able to put real thought into making a pick and instead go with who they want to win, or whom they like the least.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that half the people ANYWHERE believe De La Hoya wins this fight. Whether he does, or does not is now irrelevant, as some 30 odd of you have shown your true colours. :notallthere:

True, a large part of us are picking the guy we WANT to win rather than who most likely WILL win. But there are no real serious bets and it's all good fun anyway. Nothing better than a pre-superfight get together with forum members.

Bottom line is Floyd will probably win this fight in boring fashion.

Personally, I'd rather the 'upset' of a DLH KO. I don't think it's impossible and it's the outcome I'd prefer so I'm going with that.

Picking who you want is your right, but I don't want to see any "EAT YOUR CROW!!!" threads directed at anyone other than the obvious idiots on the board, like Double L.

Nor do I hope to see any justification of this fights apparent importance, based upon the results of this now obviously tarnished poll. I can see it now......

"That fight was a pick'em! You don't remember it, but I do. I was @ CupeyPlugsHisGayPhotos.com when it used to be Fightbeat and I swear man, 50% of us thought Oscar would win that fight. Mayweather deserves HUUUUUGE props for it"

Belarus
Poland
The Czech Republic
The Slovak Republic
Hungary
Romania
BulgariaI was going to go to some of the Yugoslav republicas, but the Serbs attacked Krajina. I liked Bulgaria, Romania, the Czech Republic, Russia and Lithuania the most. All of them were nice. The further South you go, the better the food. In Bulgaria, the French fries are just like in Belgium, except they're covered in goat cheese. Romania might've had the best food.

The first time I took heroin was in Krakow; I went there in 1994 and 1995. Nice city. The mountains on the Slovak-Polish border are nice, too.

In recent years, I have been a big supporter of Floyd, but I am really disappointed how he failed to try to take the reins and try to become a star. Instead, he just embraced his primative love of the backward, ridiculous and teenybopper hip hop/psuedo gangsta image. Honestly, if Oscar wins it will be better for boxing.

I had a dream once that I was driving around in a van, jumping out and slaughtering all the romanian beggers with a samurai sword.

It has been few and far between fights that I actually looked forward to seeing over the past couple years. My interest has DRASTICALLY diminished. If my decline in interest was a stock chart, I would have sold last year.

I am getting a little interested as the fight approaches, like I said before.......maybe it is because this is the last of my generation of fighters that are left moreso than the potential fight itself. I am expecting a Jones/Tarver 3 disappointment and if that happens, I can see boxing finally fizzle out in a long ride since I was five......where's the crying smilie at :dunno:

I don't know about this Tyler. Everybody tends to whine about boxing being dead and saying "Oh there's no more good fights that interest me, boxing is dying, etc....."
And then as another fight approaches, people are back on here giving predictions and making sig bets and stuff. Watch the reaction to Bernard Hopkins vs Winky Wright, and Wladimir Klitschko vs Lamon Brewster 2, and even Maskaev vs Sam Peter with the winner taking on Vitali.
Even though we might think "Boxing sucks and there's nothing interesting happening", we tend to get more interested as the fight approaches and that's a norm when boxing is truly deeply in your blood. Nobody can turn away from the sport. A fight doesn't have to be a SUPER FIGHT with tons of media attention to spike your interest, in my view.
We'll always have a soft spot and as long as people crave for knockouts, the sport will thrive. It's a bit on a decline right now in the States but elsewhere, it's huge. Mexico, Europe, Japan, even India. The sport will never die. Just remember how the sport was in the early 80s when nobody stood out and nobody embraced Larry Holmes. It was considered boring. Then more fighters came about, charismatic fighters like Holyfield, Tyson, Lewis, Bowe, Mercer, etc and boxing was shining again.
The sport will never die.:nono:

Hanzy whatever happened to that Indian Cruiser-weight who was an Olympian... or am I just inventing stuff here? I clearly remember a well polished Indian boxer coming about a few years back.
Gurcharan Singh. He was promising. He has a pro record of 17-0(10 KOs). He hasn't fought since 2004. I don't think he would've made it far at the pro level. He was a good amateur though. He won a tremendous amount of titles and championships in Asia, and he had a pretty respectable run in Sydney Olympics at the 71-78kg class, he reached the quarterfinal of the Games by defeating Choi Ki-Soo of South Korea and Daine Venter of South Africa but then marginally lost against Andh Fedtchouk of Ukraine.
But I feel there are better indian athletes than him out there who just never made a run to compete over here in the west.
Fact is though, despite people saying boxing is a niche sport with hardly a following over here in the States, the sport is still humongous in most other parts of the world, especially in India.
It would take only 1 moderately successful indian boxer to motivate the young kids in the 3rd world to adopt boxing and make it a career. Obviously the level of skill in Asian boxing is below the level of skill here in the States. But people normally are protected and tend to make their living in their home country rather than coming over to the big stage for the big money. Many people just live comfortably. Kinda like Corrie Sanders who was an on and off boxer. He fought here a few times and for a while, he just took small fights and made a comfortable living in his home in Pretoria, South Africa, fighting once a year and working as a cop. I bet there are monsters over where he comes from, just like Nigeria which had produced the likes of Ibeabuchi and Sam Peter. Get us more of those guys and ship them over here and help the sport!!!! LOL!

I've been pondering this for a few days now.

In 1999, Trinidad v De La Hoya was the biggest fight in the sport. It involved two of the top three 'P4P' fighters in the sport and at the height of their powers.

At this same time, Floyd Mayweather was struggling for recognition, fighting a string of quality contenders some 17 pounds down below. The fight that made him is still some way off in the future, but the time eventually comes in 2001 (and later in 2002) and Floyd is among the elite in the sport. Mayweather finally hits his absolute peak in terms of quality wins, with the rematch victory over Jose Luis Castillo.

Now, this is just the preamble leading to my explanation of why the term "P4P" is beyond ridiculous these days.

Oscar and Floyd are fighting today @ 154 pounds and all you've heard in the lead-up is "The P4P best fighter in the sport fighting blah blah blah blah". Floyd Mayweather is NOT the P4P best fighter in the sport any longer. He can't be. If he was, you wouldn't have Fightbeat.com split down the fucking line on who would win this fight. Unless of course you're going to include Oscar among the top 5, how can you justify it?

A Junior Middleweight pound Floyd Mayweather would be struggle with the title claimants @ 154 and I doubt he could separate himself from the pack in any shape or form. He fought two fights @ 147 and beat the champion there, but never separated himself from the pack. 140? Same deal.

It takes you back all the way to 135, when he beat Castillo and defended that crown a couple of times. 2002-2003. That was Floyd Mayweather's high point. In terms of recognition and fighting weight. THAT 135 pound fighter was the best in the world and no fighter at any weight was better.

That 135 pound fighter was MUCH better than the one who quite frankly was dull and unspectacular vs. Baldomir @ 147. He's not getting any better as he adds the weight.

So ask yourself this again. If you really think Mayweather is the best fighter in the world (and most of you do), how is it you are all so divided over a fight involving a guy who was Floyd Mayweather, some 8 years ago, is semi-retired, hasn't won a big fight since 2003 and whom is STILL being given a big chance by a lot of you? He had no chance vs. a Bernard Hopkins who weighed 156 pounds. SIX POUNDS more than Mayweather.

And Mayweather is the greatest fighter in the sport?

If your point is that he's fighting at 154lbs at the moment and likely wouldn't be able to beat all of the other Junior Middleweights...then Roy Jones should have NEVER deserved the title when he beat Ruiz (Lennox Lewis would have CREAMED him).

I sthat what you're saying?

Anyway...Floyd is P4P the best fighter in the sport because he's a little guy who's won titles in divisions with fighters that are undoubtedly naturally bigger and is still undefeated.

Should hi status as the best fighter be compromized BECAUSE he's taking on bigger challenges. I would have thought his status should be rewarded for this!:dunno:

A Roy Jones @ 200 pounds wasn't the best P4P fighter in the sport. No way and you'll never catch me saying otherwise either.

P4P is your weight in comparison with your skills and how good you are. Floyd is 150 pounds. He hasn't been the 135 pound wizard for four years. You cannot be the P4P best fighter in the world in 2007, just because you were in 2003 and slapped on 20 odd pounds.

I think Floyd will taste the canvas early and that will keep him on his toes until goldy tires

This post is my point about this fight all along...

All you guys picking De La Hoya are Trippin!

De La Hoya HAD his day. In his day He fought a guy JUST LIKE Mayweather. I thought he lost THAT FIGHT against Pernell Whittaker. He was younger, faster and hungrier then. That was 10 years ago. He's ALWAYS had trouble with fast handed fighters. Oscar fights once ever other year and now he's going to roll back the hands of time and Beat the best fighter in the world???

Of course, anything can happen in a ring, but unless he catches Mayweather clean, I see NO WAY that Oscar wins this fight...

I know that's not the premiss of the post, but I'm making it the point of the quoted post.

This is what I fear to be honest. Oscar still has surprisingly quick hands and even reactions, but the biggest difference is footspeed. Oscar's feet have slowed for sure, and of course Floyd's footwork is one of his best assets.

yeah. I also predict a very high waistline on ODLH, PBF's mouth will move faster than his hands (amazingly), Floyd will cry at the end of the fight, and Floyd will talk to lampley at least once in the fight. ODLH will take some important rounds off. No knockdowns and two bad ring entrances. Manny Steward will talk stupid shit.

Donnybrook
05-05-2007, 11:21 PM
Mayweather by decision.

Don't underestimate Floyd's physical strength.

DLH's big chance is to time PBF when he lunges in behind a lead left hook or right hand with his chin in the air and smash him with a left hook - especially since he has that hookercut that can get under....then flurry and finish him off.

He can set that up with the jab....but PBF will be expecting that.

PBF won't look that small at all.

I think PBF pulls away down the stretch after a tactically competitive first 5-6 rounds where PBF may look like he's rocked here and there.

Mayweather by UD.

Peace.

I have somewhat of a gut/logic conflict as well...

Logic dictates to me that Floyd will have no trouble in hitting Oscar (even Gatti managed to hit Oscar frequently) and would give De La Hoya HELL in terms of getting hit in return. Oscar's favourite and only dangerous punch is the left hook...and it's virtually impossible to land a flush left hook on Floyd.

De la Hoya is an orthodox fighter who stands 5'11", has fast hands...but not fast reflexes or legs anymore and has the tendency to slow down in the last half of the fight.

A prime version of this same De La Hoya and a very hard time with a slightly post prime Pernell Whitaker and in the view of many...lost that fight.

Pernell, at 147, at that stage...was no more elusive than Floyd, no faster, no bigger, shorter, less reach, less power. Oscar at that stage was faster, fitter, hungrier than he is now.

So logically, Floyd should beat Oscar on the outside and on the inside and win a clear unanimous decision.

Gut...

BUT...

I have learned from experience that LOGIC tends to win over GUT, at least in my case and so I'll stick with logic and predict a Floyd decision by scores of 116-112.

[I]The Sly One has Spoken!! :warning:

Damn, I'm good!!

slystaff

ODLH drops Floyd Jr. in 7 or 8th; PBF gets up to lose 12UD. Floyd Jr. is just not offensive enough to beat Oscar. This fight is Floyd Mayweather Sr. Vs. Ray Leonard all over again. Same styles same fight!!!

Floyd didn't fight on the inside let alone beat Oscar on the inside. He held every time Oscar got close. He pot shotted him from the outside. It was Baldomir all over again excpet Oscar is far better and stayed in the fight with activity.
