View Full Version : Floyd's chin? Has it been proven?

Floyd fought at 154lbs and stood up to De La Hoya of all people...a man who has KOed Ricardo Mayorga at that weight.
Granted, Floyd didn't get hit often...but obviously he was hit enough (else why are some pople thinking Oscar won)...that if he had anything less than a solid chin, it would have been exposed.
My point is, that Floyd has proven that he's not just a quick, slick virtuoso. He's also pretty damned tough. Kid has never been legitimately down in 38 fights.
Thoughts?

Guy has too much of a good defence to get hit flush. That much is true.
I wonder when he slows down (if he's still fighting, that is), he'll be exposed as a glass-jaw like RJJ?
:dunno:

He obviously doesn't have a glass jaw, but he's hard to hit flush. He's just so relaxed in there... if he was tight, I bet some of those shots he was hit with last night bother him. Kinda how Roy started to tighten up against Tarver. Once a guy starts getting nervous and doubting himself, his ability to take a punch goes down IMO.

Its pretty amazing that Judah did better against Floyd then Oscar did.

I think after this fight floyd proved he has a good chin....DLH does have alot of power and he did hit floyed 2 or 3 really solid times

I wouldn't go that far. Oscar was competitive for longer.

I wouldn't go that far. Oscar was competitive for longer.Judah gave Floyd problems early alot of problems. Early in that fight it was possible that Judah could have won. There was never any point of the fight last night where i felt that for Oscar. Only thing Oscar was able to do is throw in effective flurries. When Judah let his hands go he was effective.

Mayweather seems to have a pretty good chin, but as said earlier, he rarely gets hit flush.

Its pretty amazing that Judah did better against Floyd then Oscar did.Judah did so good against Floyd that he purposely fouled him to avoid getting KOd.

While Floyd has never been caught with a wallup punch, I think he has some pretty good whiskers.
Roy did too.........yo-yo weight fluctuations, age and that monster shot from Tarver(which would've have probably ko'd anyone) cracked his chin.

Judah did so good against Floyd that he purposely fouled him to avoid getting KOd.:lol:Possibly. But remember he did real good with Floyd early. Had him hurt and down.

Styles!
Judah would always be a more dangerous fight for Floyd...than Oscar, because of his lightening fast hands, one shot power and southpaw stance.
Not saying he'd be a harder fight for Floyd, because Oscar is much better...but he presents more DANGER

Floyd Definitely DOESN'T Have the Notoriously WEAK "Mayweather Chin" like Roger Had...
DeLa Caught Floyd FLUSH w/1 or 2 GOOD Left Hooks, but Floyd Never Looked Hurt...He was Obviously LEERY of DeLa's Power Throughout, but NEVER Hurt...
On a "10" Scale,REED Would Rate Floyd's Chin an "8" @ Worst...

I don't like this chin rating business. Floyd doesn't get hit enough to judge, but he HAS been hurt a couple of times. I dunno...if I was handing out an '8' to a fight, he'd want to show basically no flaws, only against the biggest of bangers.

I agree.
Floyd was hit with several flush rights last night as well, and he always jumped right back on Oscar looking to get the points back.
I actually thought Roger had a pretty good chin considering he was a banger that fought the best around that moved in behind an educated left looking to setup his big right, and the guys that put him on ice were all pretty big punchers as well.
Sure Roger was coldcocked several times throughout the course of his outstanding career, but all of your big hitters that moved in behind the jab like Bob Satterfield, Ike Williams, Johnny Bratton, Joe Brown, Johnny Saxton, Curtis Cokes, Donald Curry, and Thomas Hearns were as well.

I agree with most of you, his defense is just too good to find out. I would say he has a decent chin, but we dont know how good it really is.

Then by this...you are ADMITTING that Oscar hardly landed aglove on floyd last night.
You can't have it both ways. The Sly One has cornered you!!
EITHER
Floyd has a good chin
OR
Oscar just couldn't hit him with a hard punch
If the latter...HOW THE HELL can you justify picking De La Hoya in a rematch?

If he had more pop, he could exchange more, but he fights the way he fights for a REASON...
