Floyd Mayweather vs. Oscar De La Hoya @ 135-147

Yesterday's matchup was a tactical high-skilled bout in which each guy had their own advantages due to circumstances/times. Floyd is in his prime while Oscar is not. Oscar has been fighting at 154 for 6 years and Floyd was making his debut there.

I think at lower weight classes, it would be a similar type fight, but closer. Another tactical, high-skilled bout with lots of slipped and parried punches.

DLH would have the better chance at 147, Mayweather at 135 and 140.

Maybe another debatable decision but a more legitimate "controversial" decision this time.

What irks me about Floyd in this fight is that he basically got the fight from Hoya that was most made for him (in other words, plodding after him on slow, flat footed legs), and still he only won by a couple of rounds IMO. If Hoya still has any semblence of his old footwork (which he hasn't since the Hopkins fight), he beats Floyd IMO, at any weight. Simple as that.

yeah..but Floyd would be faster of hand and foot at the lower weights (he's NOT a Jnr Middleweight) and so it all balances out.

I'd probably agree with your logic if Floyd had won easily or by a wide margin, but that wasn't anywhere close to the case.

I too would slightly favor a prime Oscar over Floyd at 147 but it's just as possible Mayweather wins again. I don't even want to get into it much, as it just appears as a way to denigrate Floyd's win rather than just giving him his due credit.

Yeah I thought it was a waste of time. That's Floyd's best weight where he's one of the best ever at, and Oscar was green there and fought there just twice. Not really a fair matchup.

Even at 154, Floyd's overhand right counter to the jab was enough to stop De la Hoya. At 130, 135, 140 and 147, he beats him just the same, although De la Hoya's a strong underdog, especially with idiots like Tom Kaczmerik behind him.

Well nobody knew what 'this 34 year old Oscar' was gonna look like, so what does what anyone said before hand have to do with it? (For the record I wrongly picked Floyd by domination)

Nobody knew his legs were gonna be so stiff & slow right from the start and that he'd be totally gassed by round 7. And lucky for Floyd they were cause for the first 8 the fight was level, and he only ended up losing by the odd round. Prime Oscar beats prime Floyd at any weight!

Oscar's frame is better suited to 154 than was Floyd's..plus Oscar was used to that weight class. So any advantage that Floyd had in age is negated by the above.

From 147 down, it evens out, relatively, and as such...it's the same result as what we saw the other night. :cool:

I dont think the weight was that crucial. Remember that Oscar dwarfed and outmuscled everyone at 140lb - its not like his strength has risen in proportion to his weight. To be frank Oscar carries a fair few pounds in fat and water weight at 154. Oscar's frame is just bigger full stop and his advantages in shoulder width and strength would be just as notable at lower weights. Add the bounce and speed in his legs he had as a young fighter and even faster hands and I think he would win fairly handily, prime vs prime.
