Spinks uses better overall skills and defense to easily befuddle Taylor and outbox him to a unanimous decision. Most won't see it this way and will think that since Taylor is pressuring he'll deserve the decision even though he'll miss most of his punches which is pretty much what happened when Spinks fought Mayorga and Karmazin. There is a very likely possibility that one of the judges will see it this way too and cost Spinks his split decision.

Miranda and Pavlik are both interesting to watch. I've only seen a handful of fights between them. Miranda has been in there with better opposition thus far and Pavlik's chin is yet unproven. Therefore i'd have to go with Miranda KO 7 but i wouldn't be surprised to see it go the other way.

But Pavlik has a chance to beat him just like Tito beat Mayorga. If he stays mid-distance, and relies on his straight punches to beat Miranda's looping shots, he will win in a brutal fight.

Taylor/Spinks. - Taylor's camp obviously picked Spinks because they want a guy who can't punch so that Taylor can let his hands go and go for the KO. So that's what I expect him to do. I am shocked at the Pavlik love. The guy has no chin. I listened to Jaws argument about Miranda and he is wrong about Miranda. Miranda is not a huge puncher no matter what HBO says. Still, Pavlik is so chinny it is an insult to Chinny fighters. Pavlik hits harder, has more skill (but so does the average bowel movement), but even though Miranda isn't iron chinned compared to Pavlik he is Tua. This is one of those fight matchups that if these guys fought 10 times it would be 5-5. This is a pick 'em,, but you guys love you some Pavlik.

i'm expecting Pavlik/Miranda to look somewhat like Trinidad/Mayorga. it will be more competitive than that, because Pavlik isn't as good as Trinidad, and Miranda appears to be a little better defensively than Mayorga, but stylistically, I think it's a similar mesh of strengths and weaknesses.

Now, if I'm wrong, then I'll have to acknowledge that Miranda is more skilled than I thought. And maybe he is.

Pavlik has been knocked down but I don't think that means he's chinny. Look at Tito. He got knocked down all the time as a welter-weight. Did he ever lose a fight there? Was he ever on queer street? This is Pavlik's chance to prove himself one way or the other.

I think Spinks will give Taylor lots of problems and frustrate the champ. Taylor took this fight cause he NEEDS a knockout of a high profile fighter. I don't think he gets it. I think Spinks will do well early, then hold and complain his way to a close UD or SD loss. Taylor will be frustrated, but absolutely cannot lose this fight.

I'll say Taylor 115-113


I think Pavlik will weather the early storm and take total control of this fight in the middle rounds, at times even outclassing Miranda. But down the stretch I think Kelly will fade and will find himself on the canvas because of it. Pavlik does well in this one, but fades late and gets stopped by the ref or his corner.

Taylor close UD Spinks....in an ugly, sometimes hard-to-score fight Taylor will look bad in.

Pavlik KO 10 Miranda. Pavlik is slow, no doubt....but he punches very straight and right up the middle, and his reach is significant. Miranda likes to jab/range-find, circle on the outside and then rush in with the right hand; but he doesn't shorten his punches well and often overshoots.

Pavlik, on the other hand, does shorten very well and can cover up pretty tight inside - Miranda does not.

Both guys can hurt the other and I expect them both to do so.

But the difference here will be Pavlik's crisper, more accurate, harder punches vs. Miranda's more sloppy ones that will overshoot often.

I expect Miranda early, then Pavlik shortening the distance and beginning to turn the tide in the middle rounds; increasingly finding a tired Miranda who drops his output and starts to lunge and grapple more..which is where Kelly then lands the really heavy thunder inside.

Pavlik likely down/shaken early.
