Hopkins is +110 at MGM book. He seems to have every physical advantage over Winky.
As of right now, im placing a sick man's wager on Hopkins. Someone talk me out of it.

Nobody would care enough about you to talk you out of swallowing a barrel of a .45, hun...so please do hold your breath waiting on this one.

I think Hopkins could easily win this fight. Lately Wright has felt the need to dispense with his more defensive style and instead brawl unnecessarily. It's the reason he drew with JT instead of easily winning a decision. Most probably find this new Winky more entertaining but somehow for me he's been less. On top of that I think it's stupid, so I find myself rooting against him. Go B-hops!

it's probably based on age and the fact that Hopkins can't maintain a good pace anymore. he beat Tarver easily because he was allowed to fight when he wanted, and to pick his shots. but Winky's pressure and durability could prove too much for a 42 year old.
still, the x factor of winky fighting at 172 is what i can't dismiss. he's never fought anywhere close to 172 - he never even settled into 160 fully if you ask me.
it's a tough fight to call. i think that's why the odds are close to even.

Yeah, especially in the Trinidad and Mosley fights when neither guy could lay a glove on him.

i agree.
but against JT there was some extra aggression for the simple fact that Taylor is so tall.
still, basically i agree. dating back to the Vargas fight, winky has had a high guard, come forward, short offensive jab style.

Yeah, he's always fought like that, but lately he's been way more dispenseful of his high guard. Against Quartey, whom he probably thought he could take out, and against JT. Also the Vargas fight was another fight where he dispensed with the high guard, and lost.

Precisely. This one is all but guaranteed to go the distance so the more active guy often gets the nod.

I;m hoping more people - specifically, more bettors - believe Hopkins as a slight underdog is absurd. This way they'll drive the odds in his favor and I can get a bet on Wink when he's the underdog.

Well, as you once said, Vargas would demolish Hopkins, so it's only natural that Wright is favored over B-Hop.

This fight just makes no sense for me from Hops perspective. If he wins, he's supposed to. But if he does win it will probably be a very un-entertaining fight as it is very hard to look good against Winky. If he loses, it puts him out contention for fights with many and people start clamoring that he should have stayed retired. I was really hoping he'd cross the pond and fight Calzaghe.(thats if Joe would do it)

Well, winky "beat" Taylor more convincingly than hops, also the quartey fight is still fresh in the people's minds. That explains the odds

When he punches Hopkins in the grill it will hurt more. Winkys going to smash old man river.

more than anything, that can detract significantly from his ability to block punches. i would think a fighter like Winky would want Grant gloves to provide maximum coverage with his defense.

What was boring about Taylor-Wright? Wright is the most exciting guy that I have ever saw called boring over and over. The guy throws a lot of punches and typically presses the fight yet he is so boring to some people.

He's not boring because he doesn't throw punches. All of Stinky's fights are the same... predictable, no x-factor. distance fights. It's just a matter of how many jabs and crosses he'll throw, how many he'll land, and who gets the decision.

You can be entertaining without having power. Wright's had a lot of good fights with guys like Simon,Taylor,Soliman,Vargas, Mosley II,Candelo etc,etc.... Wright is not a boring fighter.

i think the methodical approach that Winky takes can take away some of the suspense we're used to seeing in a fight. but he is in no way boring.

I honestly think this fight is going to be a lot better than people are expecting. Winky will be pressing the action throwing punches from the start. He will make Bernard work, unlike Taylor and Tarver. Hopkins will have to throw more than his usual 20 punches a round to break through Winky's guard and to win rounds.

I thought Winky looked uncharacteristicly hittable in the Quartey fight. It's one of the reasons I think Bernard handles him easily..
I think Wright actually looks and fights like the old fighter right now. On top of that, Bernard has decisive physical advantages in height and reach. The 170 pounds should also favor Bernard.
Unless Hopkins suddenly starts to look 42 overnight, I don't think Wright will beat him.
Unlike Jake, I hope the money stays with Winky so I can bet Bernard as a nice dog...

Hopkins should beat Winky. I don't care how old he is he will still beat Winky.
At 160 it would have been more competitive but I think the catch weight of 170 will put Winky in disadvantage.

Very well could be, especially if the extra weight has an effect on Wright's punch output. Even though i'm favoring Winky, (based mostly on activity level) almost everyone's usual punch output drops against Hopkins.

I really could care less about this matchup. Had it been made 3-4 years ago it would have had more appeal to me, but at this point I just see it as two old men going at it. Maybe the fight will be exciting, but most likely it wont be, but either way I refuse to pay for it. You know its going the distance anyway, neither one has the power to hurt the other.

Perhaps, but both are STILL generally ranked among most people's top P4P fighters in the game..
I just can't believe that the thought of beating Winky Wright at 170 pounds really motivates Hopkins..

Agreed.
However given that Wright would have zero success against Hopkins in the centre of the ring...Hopkins would simply keep the fight there, dictate the pace, and cruise to an easy decision....busting up Wright's face in the process.

How's he gonna outwork Hopkins when Bernard is the man who'll be setting the pace? Think brother...think!
Wright will be forced to fight at whatever pace Bernard chooses...and if that's a slow pace then so be it.
