See thats exactly how I'm thinking. This fight makes no sense to me from Taylor's perspective. He gains nothing for the win(except cash:rolleyes: ) and loses big if he doesn't. IMO he loses if he doesn't win by KO.

Maybe it won't impress you or I, but Taylor needs this KO to re-ignite a bit of the hype and hopefully start paying back HBO for their big investment in him.

He hasn't stopped anyone for over two years now, so just that he finishes off Spinks should be enough.

word.

Taylor could KO spinks in one round and it wouldn't impress me. I don't know WHY Taylor took this fight. It's a no win situation....

Spinks has made every right hand fighter look like crap, the only one to KHTFO was Judah who is a Southpaw, and it took 2 fights and 20 1/2 rounds to do so.

I will be impressed if Taylor stops him, but I will be more impressed when Taylor takes on the winner of Miranda-Pavlik

Cosign. I'll tell you what Taylor can do to impress me. Fight a top ten middleweight, I don't care if he takes number 10 on the list (long as the list is respectable) just fight a real live middleweight. From now on JT's got a new nickname, "The Bully" because he always picks on little guys.

The only way I will be impressed tonight is if Spinks Ko's Taylor.

I'd be impressed if he dominates him for rounds and then knocks him out. Spinks is pretty crafty even though he's one of the most boring fighter out there, I think he'll give Taylor problems. At first I thought it was a foregone conclusion, now I think Taylor is really in a no-win situation while Spinks can't pretty much lose from that fight. Very bad management move for Taylor.

If he's likely to win, then how can it be a "no win situation"?

It'd be less of a "win" situation than if he were fighting someone that gave him a better chance to lose.

Don't be a smartass dude. I said the same thing, IMO unless he's totally dominant Taylor's CAREER can't really win from that fight. It is widely perceived as a tune-up against a smaller fighter but I think people underrate Spinks abilities, that's why I think it was a bad management move.

But the thing I never get with the phrase "no win situation" is it's primarily used when someone is a heavy favorite....because they're usually heavy favorites for a reason.

So if a win is by far the most likely outcome, then what is really at risk for Taylor tonight?

That he doesn't look good? He didn't look good against Ouma, either.

Despite the problems Spinks' style presents, and I agree there are some, Taylor will still look better with his hand raised at the end of the night.

That's why I think he has nothing to gain from this, especially after the Ouma fight. Spinks was a bad choice given his style and the fact that he isn't perceived as a threat.

That's the thing, I don't think this fight will have that much of an impact on his marketability or public perception - as long as he wins - and he's got enough of the right people around him (with the right connections) that it probably wouldn't matter if it did hurt (his marketability or public perception).

You're probably right, I might confuse public perception with my perception of him.
