Terrible, terrible fight.

One of the worst fights I have ever seen.

Toney looked extremely bad. I'm not sure if he was being lazy as he often is, or he's just old and can't pull the trigger. Maybe both. He wasn't accurate when he did throw either, other than a consistent jab that sometimes found it's mark.

He might've gotten a little lucky with the cards, but I didn't bother to score it as it was a dreadful fight.

There hasn't been any interest in the fight for mainly two reasons.

1) Who's Danny Batchelder?
2) James is done an elite leve/ fighter

Where was it? At the Pechanga Resort?

James is fucking FINISHED.

For all his so-called D he took a lot of leather against Rahman and Peter and his thus wasted.

Damn, why did I always think you were from Chicago?

anyway, yeah, most seemed to have it the same as you. sounds like the toney of the late '90's all over again.

Damn, I remember 10 years ago when he fought Greg Everett on ESPN thinking, "how the hell could he let himself go this bad?" and he was "only" 205 then. Now we're longing for the days to where he can get under 220.

I've seen James listed as being anywhere between 5'9 and 6'0...what height is he???

I am a longtime Toney fan. It drives me nuts to see him like this. After the Peter fight, I thought if he is going to be serious about boxing, he should get his ass back in shape, and go dominate the Cruisers. I think James could have brought new life to that division at one time, especially after the Jirov fight. But those are just days gone by now. I think its closing time for Lights Out.

IIRC, Toney was always listed at 5'10" back in his SM days.

Which doesn't mean I'm disagreeing with you because I haven't seen him in person and it's not like Tales of the Tape are consistent or necessarily accurate in the first place.

i'd say he's closer to 5'9. he's a little shorter than me, and I'm on the shy side of 5'10"

Toney is finished ...

He is older but most of all - all that extra fat weight and being lazy is the thing that is currently doing him in and will eventually end his career ..
If he was still a Cruiser or a 210lb Heavyweight , we would see slippage do to age but not nearly the slippage we are seeing now in his current condition ...

I was at this fight as well and it was pretty bad. Toney's gotten used to fighting these bigger and slower heavyweights, Batchelder actually made him come forward in the fight and Toney's not really made for that kind of fight at this point.

I didn't score the fight, but I agree with the sentiment he might have been fortunate to win.

However, it wasn't because of his weight. He came in at 229, and looked resonably good for how he's looked in recent fights.

He's simply nearing the end of his career, and his weight is - in some part - just window dressing. Obviously it helps the lighter he is, but even if he somehow got below 220 the fighter that knocked out Holyfield isn't going to appear.

The HP Pavilion in San Jose.

It certainly hurt the card that the Ricardo Cortes fight was cancelled because Marcos Primera couldn't get cleared medicallly.

I thought Eloy Perez looked alright last night.

I am to old for that. Now, I used to go up there about 8-10 years ago. It was fun. I haven't been around college girls for awhile. I did alright when I was in college and that is all that matters.

I'm just watching the fight right now... just finished the first round. Toney looks a little lighter than he has over the past year or two.. apparently his weight was 228 of 229. He won the first round clearly, but I don't know if Batchelder threw a punch. Neither guy is doing any work.

Perez had the best performance of the night, along with the "In Your Face" card girls (but not the music performance).

Nah, I just watched that one on HBO.

S.F. is pretty dead as a boxing town, San Jose and Sac-town are pretty good though.
