According to Eastside Boxing.......

Roy Jones Jr., unbeaten super middleweight Kessler both tired of ducking, dodging Joe Calzaghe; May fight each other come November

25.05.07 - For two super middleweight fighters who may wind up in opposite corners this November, WBA-WBC champion Mikkel Kessler and boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. are quite agreeable. Jones, who has a July 14 PPV TV date upcoming in Biloxi, Ms., against Anthony Hanshaw, said that WBO 168-pound champ Joe Calzaghe and his promoter Frank Warren have completely given him the runaround. According to the 50-4 future Hall Of Famer, Super Joe and Warren were never serious about making a Jones-Cazlaghe fight.

“They wanted me to go to England to fight Joe and I said yes,” Jones said. “But they make a lowball offer. They never thought I’d agree to go his country to fight Joe so I fooled them. My phone stopped ringing after I told them and the world I would go there to fight Joe. Now it would be stupid for me to chase Joe around. If I win this fight, and I’m not looking past Hanshaw by any means, then maybe I can fight Kessler for his two titles in November. Kessler sounds serious about fighting me so I’d be stupid not to look into it. I don’t duck and dodge nobody.”

For his part, the unbeaten Dane feels much the same way.

“My promoter, Mogens Palle, went to Frank Warren’s office and got the runaround. It would be an honor for me to match my skills against Roy Jones. Roy is one of my boxing idols, he and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Just like Roy, my promoter told Warren I’d fight Calzaghe anywhere they want in the UK. They wanted the fight for Sept. 22 and we wanted it for November. We agreed to their venue, their date and all we got was a laughable offer,” the 28-year-old Kessler said. “You would think that, after the Peter Manfredo embarrassment, Joe and Frank would want the toughest, most credible super middleweight opponent they could find. That’s me.”

Another point of agreement between RJJ and the “Viking Warrior” is that it’s past time for the 35-year-old Welshman to pick on someone his own size.

“Why would Calzaghe want to fight a middleweight like Jermain Taylor? Palle said. “You don’t see either Mikkel or Roy Jones picking on smaller men. Should Jones beat the tough Hanshaw, we could have a marvelous November Jones-Kessler promotion in Copenhagen come November. That will be the time of my 50th anniversary as a promoter. It would be the best super middleweight ever against Kessler, who is the best at 168 pounds today.”

Jones is promoted by Murad Muhammad. Muhammad concurs with the fighters and Palle that Jones-Kessler would be a hot match.

“It would be a huge fight in the US also,” Muhammad said. “I think Frank Warren is looking for another cupcake like poor Manfredo. You know Roy Jones’ history. He runs to challenges not away from them. I could sit down with Mr. Palle and we can figure out where Jones-Kessler makes sense. It makes sense where it makes the most dollars.”

So, while Calzaghe continues to duck and dodge like “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” don’t be surprised if Roy Jones Jr. and Mikkel Kessler strike a very hot match this autumn.

Good thing Jones is getting KTFO by Hanshaw so we don't have to worry about a possible fight with Kessler..

Sounds like Jones didn´t get the joke on FNF. Kessler might kill him. *Normally I would put laughing smilie here, but the topic is too serious to make jokes about*

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. When Hanshaw lays Roy out, maybe Kesseler and Hanshaw can fight.

 Beating Hanshaw don't make you anything but a top 25 fighter. He's average as fuck. This fight is a step BACK for Roy, IMO.

I can't believe RJJ would want to get himself back down to 168:eeeek: Does anyone know what he weighs right now?

OK, I;m not question that they want to fight each other. Roy clearly realizes where he's at in his career, and will undoubtedly pursue the fight for the right money.

But...

If people thought dealing with Roy at the negotiating table is impossible, then wait until Roy has to negotiate with Palle.

Maybe they both take short money just to spite Joe. But I don't see it being that easy. In fact, I'd be surprised if Palle doesn't demand anything less than career-long options on Roy and options on his kids' next three spelling bees.

So who is the one keeping the deal from happening with Kessler/Calzaghe? Is it Palle or Warren?

Palle brought his charge to my country. No options. No stupid stipulations. He brought his undefeated fighter, to a worthy opponents backyard and won the fight on the cards.

Palle might be shady, but he will still deal if the money is right. Warren? Jones Jr? They have a history of wanting more than just that. They also want assurances.

Granted, Palle pulled his boy out of a fight with Danny Green, after losing the purse bid...but still, his following actions spoke loud enough for me.

I agree, that was a very very very dangerous thing to do, inserting his injured world champion into an event in Sydney centred around Mundine, from where he had to try and solve a style that even has Mundine himself confused (Crossed between mimmicking Roy Jones or Mohammed Ali?), and what's worst of all, is that when he's under fire, he pulls a Fraud Mayweather and twists his back and ducks and turns his head illegally like a bitch, JUST LIKE HIM  ,...:eeeek: ..thank fuck Kessler won atleast 9 rounds, if I were him,..I'd never do that again, bring it to Denmark for fuck sakes, and get a referee that'll enforce the fucking rules :eeeek: !!.

Besides why would Palle want options? Did he ask for life long options on Eric Lucas or Manny Siaca, so why make an exception for Roy? :dunno: :dunno:

Why is it?

Because Jones is beatable now...and if Kessler wins Calzaghe cannot hide anymore. And Kessler has never been in the ring with anyone like Jones, even a past his prime Jones is better than anyone in Kessler resume...

Jones hasn't shown anything in four years, to suggest he's a serious threat to an elite fighter.

False. You Aussies are delusional. Mundine is talented but not great. He got beaten by Manny Siaca, enough said. Jones would stop Mundine tomorrow.

Jones will probably wail away at Mundine's balls midway, angered by what he suspects is Mundine trying to make a fool out of his style, only to be restrained..and informed that he's just a wiggery fuckwit of a fan, and not to take it personal.
