If he wins this weekend, according to Dan Rafael:

"A win by Arce will propel him into a Feb. 16 showdown with former junior bantamweight titlist Martin Castillo on the Kelly Pavlik-Jermain Taylor II undercard."

Arce's in for another beating.

The fight they should've made is Mijares/Castillo. But that would make too much sense I guess, and destroy too much value.

The date isn't yet guaranteed, Rafael jumped the gun on this.

The preference is to put it on that show, but it's still between that date, March 15 (Pac-JMM II) or as part of a HBO B.A.D. doubleheader with Chavez Jr.-Gomez (though the least unlikely as HBO is lowballing Top Rank).

The matchup is definite, though. Provided of course that Arce gets past Megdoen Singsurat tonight.

Castillo is more overrated than Arce.

you might want to re-think that statementafter castillo beats the fuck out of arcenah! Castillo is more skilled than ARce but they are about even at this stage.

I can't remember the last time Castillo beat the fuck out of anybody. Especially someone that brings the heat like ARce.:warning:

and adding to the drama...

Arum is now talking about this fight landing on a January 2008 independent Top Rank PPV (with JCC to appear, possibly against Baldomir, and Mike Alvarado to most likely face Henry Bruseles, his original opponent for this show)

It was stopped due to a cut, and at the time it was a draw on the cards. I thought Castillo was coming on quite a bit down the stretch.

That said, this isn't the first time by a long shot that an established/highly regarded fighter loses to one with an early/'short' record.

All fighters are dangerous, especially in Japan where they get the best ones into title fights very quickly.

Peace.
