According to the BBC, Team Hatton has been in discussions with Golden Boy Promotions about a potential showdown with Oscar De La Hoya. The fight could take place in Wembley Stadium next year in front of an expected 80,000. Although the biggest fight of Ricky Hatton’s career is just days away, Hatton’s lawyer Gareth Williams said that "The chances are very strong" that Ricky will fight Oscar. "We have strong links with Oscar de la Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions and we've had discussions with them." "It would be the perfect venue and we could look at selling in excess of 80,000 tickets," he said. The BBC report has also said that Oscar has been a regular at Hatton’s gym (UFC Headquarters) in the lead up to the fight. I disagree with this.
Oscar will always be a massive draw, no matter what. If he got the decision, Floyd's stock would go down big time. But by Floyd winning, it 'legitimizes' him in the general publics eye. I'm not saying he threw the fight, but its a similar case as what happened with Hopkins.
How much more money were Hopkins fights worth after KO'ing De La Hoya? I find it interesting that both Hopkins and Mayweather become Golden Boy fighters immediately after their victories.
I think De La Hoya is happy to give these guys victories as it adds to there long term marketability.
Should Hatton beat Mayweather, and then De La Hoya, he will be a big star in the USA as well.
There's more money to be made for De La Hoya by losing big fights then winning them from now on.

Hatton will have to be nailed to the fucking mat for Floyd to stop him. Fuck it, Collazo beat Hatton up in the last round of their fight and Hatton finished it going forward. For Floyd to KO Hatton he will have to hit him over and over again with Hatton on the back foot. The key is getting him onto that back foot. And I just don't think Floyd is any bigger, smarter, tuffer or more Southpawer than Collazo.

You can't blame em. Despite what they, Floyd fans know that Floyd looked like complete sh*t against a shot inactive DLH in his last fight, not to mention fought off his backfoot like a fairy and took no risks. He's not a guy you can have complete faith in no matter how much he barks. They saw what happened to Roy Jones Jr, only 1 shot on an overconfident Roy and that was it, career in shambles.:dunno:
Floyd is ready to be taken, with his brittle hands and his desire to provide only for his family and take minimal risk in the ring, it's obvious with each fight he's losing his motivation to compete in this brutal sport. It's all taking its toll.

Hell for all of his years pretending to be Mexican, he never even fought over there. Now all of a sudden, a year after generating the highest grossing fight in boxing history, he's going to cross the Atlantic and fight in Hatton's backyard? C'mon

the last fighter PBF really "beat" was Mitchell. i mean he's won all of his fights, but none of his opponents' losses really set them back. basically, it just showed they couldn't catch up with speedy PBF the runner. so whether Hatton wins or loses, a matchup with ODH will be every bit the huge attraction. if PBF manages to win (and i think he does), it's not really gonna matter. he'll have pot-shotted out a stinking victory, and it'll be Hatton, like ODH, who wins over the crowd. and an ODH/Hatton fight will still be in big demand (although it's tough to imagine Hatton having much success at 154, let alone against ODH).

Zab got a shot at Cotto, and will probably now be fighting Quintana on B.A.D. when did his status/opportunities ever exceed that?
and Baldomir fought on HBO against Forrest - for a title. again, remaining at the height of his achievements in terms of exposure.
Zab had already been on ESPN2 circuit, even prior to fighting PBF - following his loss Baldomir.
and ODH? well, his stock certainly hasn't fallen.
Corely? He's gotten plenty of shots in the wake of PBF's "victory" over him - fought Cotto on HBO and Witter.
belieave me, a points loss to a poking mayweather does little to hurt a fighter's career - it's just the way it is. even Gatti, who was massacured by PBF went on to fight two more times on HBO.
i'm not saying it's a bad reflection on PBF or anything - main point i'm trying to make is that a points loss to a safety first PBF is not going to make a ODH./Hatton fight any less attractive or financially viable. and networks will have no less interest in showing it.
now, if PBF massacures Hatton, say the way he did Gatti, then no, i couldn't see an ODH fight getting made. but what are the chances of that? that's why discussions with ODH on Hatton's part really aren't premature - the only consequence here is that if he loses to PBF, he'll probably do worse at the negotiating table - which is one reason it makes sense to start talks "before" the PBF fight - if it does happen in front of 80,000 fans it'll be one event ODH is involved in when he can't take all the credit for the gate. and that will be true whether Hatton loses to PBF or not - but a loss to PBF will rob him of some negotiating leverage i would think.

I really, really, really doubt Oscar would fight in England. Yeah yeah, the Euro is destroying the U.S. dollar and all, but Oscar would be in a hostile environment. I think Oscar is happy just fine with the large paydays in Vegas with the huge site fees the casinos pay.
DLH-Hatton in England has about as much chance at materializing as it does for Pacquiao to fight Oscar, and win.

Even if Hatton lights PBF up like a big, 'Norweigan Spruce' Christmas tree, there is NO chance whatsoever of ODLH fighting Hatton at Wembley. Absolutely none.

i wonder if ODH lost to PBF on purpose. that's the only way i can explain his abandoning the jab. he would've won going away had he jabbed in the later rounds. my guess is he's at a point where if he couldn't knock PBF out, it wasn't worth it to him to beat him. it's only a matter of time before GBP signs PBF - everyone knows this. and whatever banner PBF "thinks" he's being promoted under right now, I'm sure it's a shell for GBP.
