or at least he has the best translation of wrestling into MMA...

From MMA Weekly

http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=5350&zoneid=2

In the fights since his initial victory over St-Pierre, Hughes has taken down all of his opponents with ease, except for St-Pierre and Penn. Against Trigg, Joe Riggs, Royce Gracie, and Chris Lytle, Hughes landed all six of his takedown attempts. Against St-Pierre and Penn, he landed only one of nine combined attempts. As for his defense, Hughes has not really been tested. He is at 50%, stuffing a takedown attempt by Riggs and falling prey to a St-Pierre double leg in their second fight.

Since his loss to Hughes, St-Pierre has fought against Dave Strasser, Jason Miller, Trigg, Sherk, Penn, Hughes, Matt Serra, and Josh Koscheck. Against the four strongest pure wrestlers – Trigg, Sherk, Hughes, and Koscheck – St-Pierre landed all eight takedown attempts and stuffed nine of 10 attempts against him (Koscheck landed the lone takedown). Against the other opponents – Strasser, Miller, Penn, and Serra – St-Pierre landed nine out of 11 takedown attempts and avoided five of seven takedown attempts against him.

In total, St-Pierre has landed 17 of 19 takedown attempts (89%) and defended 14 of 17 attempts (82%) since his loss to Hughes three years ago. Put another way, St-Pierre has spent less than one minute on his back in the last three years.

Can you think of anyone who has done a better job on both takedowns and takedown defense in MMA??? I think aside from MAYBE Fedor, GSP has the best GNP in MMA as well

As soon as Brock Lesnar gets to the UFC, he will be the best wrestler.

I wonder how quickly the GSP bandwagon is gonna empty when he loses to Hughes on Saturday.

You really feel that will happen?

I like Hughes but he got pulverized by Georges the last time out. I don't know how you rebound from that.

The same way GSP rebounded from getting subbed by Hughes the first time.

People are underestimating Hughes in a big way.

I understand that, but GSP is the younger guy, and the second fight may have been a case of Hughes starting to decline at 34-35 years old.

More importantly though was the manner of eaches victory. The stoppage in the 2nd fight seemed more brutal than the submission in the 1st fight.

Like I said, I'll be pulling for Hughes, but I have no confidence in his chance right now.

And Serra beat the living bejesus out of GSP. If Serra can do it, why can't Hughes?

Because it's been shown in BOTH fights hughes can't stand with GSP. Hughes pulled the sub out of his ass in the first fight but he was losing round 1 in that fight to. Hughes is heading towards retirement and GSP will put him there.

So,winning 3 NCAA championships is shit?.............Woooow!!never said that homeboy, but lets see Brock do something in the cage first....Koscheck was suppose to be some wrestling phenom, and St Pierre dominated him wrestling....

GSP is an excellent wtestler. I was impressed with the way he just outwrestled Koscheck who is a decorated NCAA division one wrestler. GSP, Anderson Silva and Penn are the best allround MMA fighters in the sport today IMO. I'd include Cotoure in that group but he's retired (for now).
