War Trinidad!!! (he's probably getting dominated though)
thats what I'm sayin
and does Roy even need to be "safety first" againest a blow up fat welter?

There are too many variables in this fight! We all know both fighters are past their best. We need to wait and see how Tito looks @170. Also how the layoff will effect Tito. Will 170 hurt RJ? Can Tito hurt RJ? Too many variables. We have to wait and see.

variables for sure..
but to me, Tito will NOT be a one punch KO guy at that weight
And 2) Tito will NOT be able to take Roy's shot at ALL!!

When has RJ become a 1 punch ko artist? Tito has proven to take a better shot at higher weights. Yes he got stopped @ 160 but it took a 12 round beat-down. RJ is the one with a suspect chin here. Tito's power is not proven @170 but we shall see.
Roy can hit!
the thing here is.. even as shot as Roy might be..
he is FASTER without a doubt.. Faster than Tito and faster than anyone Tito has ever fought
He hits harder than anyone Tito has ever fought
Roy has been hit by MUCH harder hitters and bigger guys than Tito

By G. Leon
</TD></TR><TR><TD style="PADDING-RIGHT: 20px" vAlign=top bgColor=#ffffff>Last night former pound for pound king Roy Jones Jr informed Boxingtalk.com that he is having a tougher than expected time making weight for his eagerly anticipated clash with Puerto Rican legend Felix Trinidad, slated to take place at Madison Square Garden in less than two weeks. "It's been a bit tougher than I expected. I'm going to get there, but I ain't think it was going to be this hard," said Jones. Full exclusive interview with his Royness to follow first thing Monday morning, so stay tuned. Remember where you heard it first! (4:27 PM EST)

Roy might be drained @ 170. He hasn't been that low for a fight since 1996.
Other than that possibility, I see the chances for Tito being extremely slim.
Tito hasn't fought in nearly 3 years, and he looked terrible the last time out. Roy at least has been semi-active, and beating fringe contenders. Fringe light-heavyweight contenders, while Tito has never fought above 160 in his career.
Tito has always been vulnerable to a straight right hand. Back in his prime, he made the predominantly left-hand happy Oscar De La Hoya look very good with his straight right. Carr and Reid dropped him with it, Hopkins had a field day with it, hell even Cherifi landed a couple of nice rights, one that stopped Tito's attack when he had just dropped Cherifi. Roy's right hand is still very fast, and he's a bigger guy than anyone who has hit Tito with that punch before.

Yeah and Roy has been so impressive lately, get of that soap box, Jones is SHOT.
They both are. Absolutely shot to pieces.
This fight is a total parcel of balls, it really is. And the result, whatever it is, will settle nothing, because both fighters are so past their respective primes that the result will be almost utterly meaningless. Even if Jones absolutely kills Tito, which I suppose is the most likely result of this 'fight', it means almost nothing, other than:
Completely shot RJJ> Completely shot Trinidad
When you think of how good 2007 was in terms of PRIME fighters fighting other PRIME fighters, current P4P fighters facing one another and guys trying to unify/clean out divisions, I think it kind of sad that this fight is even taking place. I mean, seriously, how much more $$$ can either of these guys need right now? :dunno:
I expect RJJ to win easily, because at least he is fighting near enough the weight he fought at during his prime, and I don't think Trinidad has enough power to trouble the main foundation of RJJ's demise: the weakening (dramatically) of his chin and the increased abilities of his opponents to find it.
But why people care is beyond me...

Trinidad: Roy can't keep promise!
By Karl Freitag
Ring legend Felix Trinidad isn't too concerned about the pledge of Roy Jones Jr. to knock him out. "It's a promise he will not be able to fulfill," said Tito today. "It's just one more fighter to say something like that. I don't care about what he's saying right now." Tito said he expects to stop Roy but will be ready to go twelve rounds. "I think that I am a better fighter and I will show him that on January 19th."

^^^I love Tito but he is so delusional. I don't see how he comes up with this vision of beating Roy Jones after being HUMILIATED at 160 by Winky Wright and then retiring for 2 years and putting on lots of weight.
The only thing that can prevent Roy from KOing Tito would be his own fear of getting his own chin checked.

It is rare to see the always cool Felix Trinidad rattled at something his opponent said, but there was little question after today’s phone teleconference that he was not pleased with Roy Jones Jr.’s promise of a knockout and a prediction of a fourth round KO in their upcoming fight at Madison Square Gardens.
“It is a promise that will not be fulfilled.” Trinidad responded icily. Although Trinidad stated that he didn’t care what Jones said, there was little question that Trinidad took umbrage at all of Jones’ talk of dominance.
“At the press conference he said he was going to KO me in four rounds,” Trinidad said through his translator, Jose “Pepe” Ramos, “I said that would be impossible since I was going to knock him out in the second.”
With two fighters with some of the most dramatic knockouts of the decade to their credit promising knockout victory’s, it seems almost a certainty that their will be fireworks on January 19th. But many insiders feel that a slugfest might just benefit the smaller Trinidad, who has show trouble with boxers in the past, and who has never failed to capitalize when he stepped in the ring with an opponent whose chin was suspect.
“Every weakness he will bring into the fight, I will discover in the ring and take advantage of,” Trinidad commented, “He has trouble with punchers, and I can punch.”
For fans of the Puerto Rican superstar, it already appears that the fire that was missing in his last fight, a lopsided decision loss to Winky Wright, has resurfaced. He spoke with confidence and a renewed appreciation for the sport. When asked what prompted him to comeback he responded, “First I had to consider the fans, they were always calling on me to fight again wherever I went, then there was my promoter Don King, who was pursuing me and trying to get me to comeback. Finally there was myself.”
Although many insiders wonder if Trinidad’s renowned power would make the jump up to 170-pounds, he promises that fans will see the Trinidad of old, devastating punching power and all.
“I feel that I still have my punching power (at this weight), and that is something you never lose. People will see (on January 19th) that I still have the power.”

My reasons for saying that is for Starters , Pavlik fights at 160 , not 170.
