In December, while doing my usual rounds around the LA boxing gyms, I bumped into none other than former Super Flyweight Champion Martin “El Gallito” Castillo. Castillo is a 10-year veteran and has campaigned most of his career in the 115lbs division. I’ve been a big fans of his for many years so I immediately rushed over to his part of the gym to chat.

After a year layoff from boxing, to recover from surgery, he came back to the game a bit heavy. His first fight back was at 121lbs and he scored a third round KO. But he’s been working his way down back to 115lbs division to position himself for another title shot. On February 16 in Las Vegas he’ll get that opportunity when he takes on Fernando Montiel in a Super Flyweight crossroads clash.
