There's a ton of good MMA coming up. Here's what on tap...

UFC 80: JANUARY 19, 2008 IN NEWCASTLE, ENGLAND

Main Card Bouts:
-Joe Stevenson (#8 Lightweight in the World)* vs. BJ Penn
-Gabriel Gonzaga (#5 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Fabricio Werdum (#8 Heavyweight in the World)*
-Marcus Davis (#10 Welterweight in the World)* vs. Jess Liaudin
-Jason Lambert vs. Wilson Gouveia
-Kendall Grove vs. Jorge Rivera

This is PPV, but this belongs on Spike. Besides being televised in the afternoon here in the US, it's just not a loaded card. Penn\Stevenson should be good, but Penn should beat him easily. Werdum\Gonzaga does nothing for me. I like Davis a lot, but they need to find him better competition.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT 12: JANUARY 23, 2008 ON SPIKE TV
venue: The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada

Main Card Bouts:
-Mike Swick vs. Josh Burkman
-Thiago Tavares vs. Michihiro Omigawa
-Patrick Cote vs. Drew McFedries
-Nate Diaz vs. Alvin Robinson

Swick\Burkman should be a decent fight. Tavares looked great in a loss to Tyson Griffin, but Omigawa? How did he get in the UFC? Cote\McFredries is interesting

SHO XC: JANUARY 25 ON SHOWTIME
venue: Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey

Main Card Bouts (subject to change):
-Paul Daley vs. Sam Morgan
-Eddie Alvarez vs. Ross Ebanez
-Julie Kedzie vs. Tonya Evinger
-Bobby McMaster vs. Bao Quach
-Kala Kolohe Hose vs. Fred Belleton

If EliteXC is gonna succeed, they need to continue to build their own stars like they are doing with Noons, Kimbo, Silva, etc, and Eddie Alvarez has the potential to be EliteXC's biggest star of them all. Alvarez has a HUGE following out of Philly, and they'll all be in AC that night. Mark my words, the crowd is gonna be electric for this one.

UFC 81: FEBRUARY 2, 2008 IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
venue: MGM Grand Garden Arena

Main Card Bouts (subject to change):
-Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (#2 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Tim Sylvia (#4 Heavyweight in the World)*
-Nathan Marquardt (#8 Middleweight in the World)* vs. Jeremy Horn
-Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir
-Alan Belcher vs. Ricardo Almeida
-Tyson Griffin vs. Gleison Tibau

Nog\Sylvia might be a stinker, but it's still an interesting fight in the continuing series of UFC\Pride matchups. Lesnar\Mir is very interesting, and should answer a lot of questions about Lesnar. Tyson Griffin's fights are always worth the price of admission on their own and should be fight of the night.

WEC: FEBRUARY 13 ON VERSUS NETWORK
venue: Santa Ana Star Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico

-Carlos Condit (#9 Welterweight in the World)* vs. Carlo Prater
-"Razor" Rob McCullough vs. Jamie Varner
-Chase Beebe vs. Miguel Torres
-Cody Wheeler vs. Del Hawkins
-Hiroyuki Takaya vs. Leonard Garcia

WEC has put on some of the best cards of the year. This one should be no different. If you want to see some good Non PPV MMA, WEC is perfect for you.

ELITE XC: FEBRUARY 16, 2008 ON SHOWTIME
venue: Bank United Center in Miami, Fla.

-Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson vs. David "Tank" Abbott
-Yves Edwards vs. Edson Berto
-Kyle Noke vs. Scott Smith
-James Thompson vs. Brett Rogers
-Antonio Silva vs. TBA
-Gina Carano vs. TBA
-Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett vs. TBA

Slice\Tank is a Pride-esque Freakshow fight, but should be fun for the minute, minute and a half it lasts. Edwards is on the downside of his career, but still a dangerous fighter. Antonio Silva is always fun to watch, as is Carano. Bennett is the most entertaining .500 fighter in MMA.

UFC 82: MARCH 1 IN COLUMBUS, OHIO
venue: Nationwide Arena

-Anderson Silva (#1 Middleweight in the World)* vs. Dan Henderson (#3 Light Heavyweight in the World)*
-Jon Fitch (#4 Welterweight in the World)* vs. Akihiro Gono
-Josh Koscheck (#5 Welterweight in the World)* vs. Dustin Hazelett
-Cheick Kongo (#10 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Heath Herring
-Luke Cummo vs. Luigi Fioravanti
-Jorge Gurgel vs. John Halverson

Silva\Hendo should be awesome. Gono is a good test for Fitch, who has been on fire. Kongo\Heath is an interesting fight. How does Gurgel keep getting on PPV?

UFC 83: MARCH 8, 2008 IN MANCHESTER, ENGLAND

-Michael Bisping vs. Charles McCarthy
-Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin
-Demian Maia vs. TBA

Bisping's first fight after moving down in weight. Alexander's first fight since his loss. This should be on Spike, unless they add a big name fight or 2.

STRIKEFORCE/ELITE XC: MARCH 29, 2008 ON SHOWTIME
venue: HP Pavilion in San Jose, California

-Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le
-Gilbert Melendez (#6 Lightweight in the World)* vs. Josh Thomson
-Jake Shields (#7 Welterweight in the World)* vs. TBA

Main card airs live on Showtime on Saturday, March 29

Cung Le\Shamrock is a great matchup.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT: APRIL 2, 2008 ON SPIKE TV
location: Denver, Colorado

-Kenny Florian (#10 Lightweight in the World)* vs. Joe Lauzon
-Matt Hamill vs. Stephan Bonnar
-Spencer Fisher vs. Marcus Aurelio

3 Excellent matchups. This fightnight is better then some of the PPV's on this list.

UFC 84: APRIL 19, 2008 IN CANADA
venue: Bell Centre in Montreal

-Matt Serra (#2 Welterweight in the World)* vs. Georges St. Pierre (#1 Welterweight in the World)*
-Karo Parisyan (#6 Welterweight in the World)* vs. Thiago Alves
-Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (#2 Light Heavyweight in the World)* vs. TBA
-Jason MacDonald vs. TBA
-Patrick Cote vs. TBA

If Serra beats GSP again, the Canadian fans might riot. Should be fun to see how Shogun looks after losing to Forrest. Hopefully they give him a good opponent.

Thanks for the update!

I really want to see Cung Le vs Frank Shamrock!

It seems like the cards are a bit watered down...

TFK, do you have any info on Martin Kampmann, he has simply disappeared since pulling out of the Franklin fight.

I know Kampmann had some surgeries done on his knee. I haven't heard anything definite, but I figure he'll be back by summer, or late spring.

Great stuff TFK.

we need to keep this thread handy:lol:

I am pretty amped up for all of it, but I must admit I have my sights set on UFC 82. Sorry Gatti. Dan is going to straight up dominate Andy. The only thing that bugs me about 82 is you have the #4 and #5 welterwieghts in the world fighting on the same night but not each other. If they were facing each other, this card would be off the heezy, fo sheezy, my neezies.

I have to say that Henderson is the favourite, but Silva is too good to write off.

Doesn't Cro Cop have one fight left on his contract? If so why is he not on any of the upcoming cards?

Do they want to save that fight for one more big showdown against a top fighter?

Well i still don't know if Mirko does have a fight left with UFC under contract.

But i think i basically answered my own question if he did. I can't see them wasting his potentially last fight on an undercard.

As the Resident MMA NOVICE of Fightbeat, REED is MOST Impressed by the Silva-Henderson Matchup...Not Sure if that's the BEST Fight or Not...

REED has Only Seen 2-3 Fights of Silva's & Some Highlights, but Dude was Fucking AWESOME from what REED Saw...

The 1st EVER MMA Card REED Watched Featured Henderson vs Rampage...On Paper, it Seems like Henderson will B ALOT BIGGER & STRONGER than Silva, but that Sleek, Panther Built Motherfucker can FIGHT...

That just MIGHT B the 1st MMA PPV REED Shells Out Money 4...

AgREED! Tough to pass up a fight between two top 10 PFP'ers! I think it will be a great fight. 2 totally different contrasting styles of fighters who have demolished their respective weight classes. It should be great. Undercard is not the best though. :(

I give props where props are due. You are right Gatti. Silvia is no runover and Hendo will have his hands full. Dan is just a veteran of the game, makes little to no mistakes and I think that will be what wins it for him. Dan gave Rampage all he could handle, he is just going to be a muthafuckin beast at MW.

Reed, this will be a card worth shelling out for homey. Believe that!

Just to update this thread, here's the rumored card, so far, for May's UFC...

UFC: MAY 24, 2008 IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

-Lyoto Machida (#5 Light Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Tito Ortiz
-B.J. Penn vs. Sean Sherk
-Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva

This is supposed to be Tito's last fight with UFC, and he's gonna go out with a whimper, as Machida will win an easy decision. Tito is pissed off that he's not making more money, in spite of still being one of the UFC's top paid fighters. For some reason, it's crystal clear to everyone but himself that he is no longer an elite fighter, and is nothing more then a gatekeeper.

Penn\Sherk is a great fight, but I just don't think Sherk can beat Penn.

Evans\Silva is another great fight, with Silva coming off of his dismantling of Houston Alexander, and Evans off of his lackluster win over Michael Bisping. Anytime you match two undefeated fighters, it's an interesting fight. I think Evans is underated, but I also think Silva is at least a step above him, and should be able to GNP Evans into a KO stoppage.
