I think Williams will stop him in the later rounds.

I think it is impossible for a long lean black man to lose to anyone of stubby Indian heritage. Roger Mayweather being the obvious exception.

Williams is the SAFE Pick...

But Quintana is CRAFTY, Quick & SOUTHPAW Enough to Make Williams Look VERY Bad...

Williams' Workrate Leaves NUMEROUS Countering Opportunities for Quintana...

If REED were Williams' Matchmaker, this Fight WOULDN'T Happen...Quintana is Coming Off a DECISIVE Loss, yet he's Potentially a Stylistic NIGHTMARE for Williams...

It's a NO-WIN Situation for Williams...

REED'll Take Williams by Decision, but it'll B the Kind of Win that DIMINISHES Williams Somewhat...

Stay busy fight against a 'name'.

Like Who?

Mayweather isn't touching him......Hatton isn't.....Cotto probably isnt, preferring to posture between themselves over each other and Oscar.....

....it seems Williams is relegated to Margarito/Cintron world for the time being, which is a pity because the guy could conceivably beat anyone right now.

Williams has Always Been 1 of the BUSIER Fighters N Terms of his Workrate AND his Frequency of Fights...

Cintron SCREWED him by Pulling Out of their Unification Fight, which Left Very Little Options for Williams...

Still, there's NO UPSIDE to Beating Quintana @ this Point, yet he's a Relatively DANGEROUS Foe...BAD Matchmaking...

"Names" like Colazzo, Clottey, etc. would Provide the SAME Level of Risk, yet Look BETTER on Williams' Resume...

I thought about Collazo. Perhaps he wasn't available or would demand a larger percentage than Quintana could ask for.

It could also simply be the Quintana matchup offers up Williams the most money he could make for a stay busy fight?

this is exactly why Cotto and PBF will never fight him.

the biggest fight out there for Williams is one he's already made - against Margarito (it was a great fight by the way and very close).

i'd like to see Williams vs. Forrest. that'd be an interesting fight if and when Williams moves up.

oh, and don't expect to see ODH ever face Williams.

Clottey is no less risky a fight than Quintana. He's a lot faster, and probably more durable too.

Also, I think you're underestimating Quintana's reputation. His win over Joel Julio surprised a lot of people, and before that, he'd had some impressive wins on ESPN2.

I don't think anyone's written him off because of the loss to Cotto, and I think if and when Williams beats him, he'll get credit for having faced a full sized and competent opponent.

What I like is that he's not facing some old junior welter-weight like so many guys do these days (Williams himself fought Sharmba Mitchell which was a joke of a matchup). This alone means Williams will get credit for the win.

The FACT is, Williams' Performance vs Quintana will IMMEDIATELY B Compared to Cotto's, whether that's Fair or Not...Because of his Style & Physical Make-Up, REED See's NO Way Williams can Beat Quintana as IMPRESSIVELY as Cotto Did...

N Other Words, Williams is Gonna Look WORSE by Comparison...@ Least w/Collazo or Clottey, they Didn't Get DECISIVELY STOPPED N 1 of their Recent Fights...

U Could Pick their Names Out of a Hat (Quintana, Clottey, Collazo)& the Level of Risk WOULDN'T Lessen, but the Level of CREDIT Williams could Get would Increase...

Quintana's GOOD, but he's Known for Being "Cotto ROADKILL" by Most...

It might seem that way, but it's a coincidence. It's not that I root for the lower ranked guys, it's that I don't like "champions" who claim to be the best, or who are heralded as the best, but are unwilling to test themselves against the best.

It doesn't seem right for a fighter to revel in praise and championship status if he's going to pick and choose his opponents with the greatest of care.

It just so happens that ODH is one of the few "stars" out there who has actually gone up against the best the sport had to offer. And so win or lose, he never went around making claims he couldn't back up.

I think Williams could lose. I feel he still has a lot of unanswered questions about him. I find it funny because I just read a boxingtalk interview where Dan Goosen is comparing Williams with Cotto saying these two need to fight to see who deserves to fight Floyd. He basically said Paul’s resume compares to Cotto’s. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Stylistically Paul would make for an interesting match with Floyd but he hasn’t come nearly as close for deserving that fight as Cotto has.

I actually struggle to think of another ranked welter whom would have as little chance of beating Williams, as Quintana. He's a backfoot fighter, taking on a HUGE welter, with the activity of a flyweight, with a jab that has proven to be effective against southpaw or orthodox opponents.

I fully expect a reasonably boring fight, with Williams busting up Quintana for the duration. It's a shit fight, IMO.

Thats what I was thinking, but like Reed and Whiskey said, its a stay busy thing. By rights this should be BURIED on the undercard of a major fight, but thanks to Williams belt, its a major fight in and of itself.

What's really funny is that now Williams has Margarito on his resume:laughing:
All Williams won (besides the WBO belt) was the title of number one avoided fighter at 147.

I agree. Its not a fight I'm particularly hyped about. Williams will definitely win IMO, but it figures to be a less than great fight.

Too bad Kermit the frog bitched out and robbed us of what woulda been a great fight.

Its ironic, but Cintron woulda actually had a better chance of beating Williams, than he does in the Marga rematch.

Well, you call out Cotto and PBF for not fighting Williams and herald DLH for fighting the best...but I don't recalll DLH ever really attempting to fight Vernon Forrest or Winky Wright.

1. Forrest was the "best" for about 3 months.

2. Wright's ascent to P4P status came long after ODH had moved up to 154 and coincided with ODH's fight with Hopkins.

I'm not saying fighters have to fight "everyone" in order to deserve their titles. But fighting Mitchell, Judah and Baldomir, and now ODH a second time when there's guys like Margarito, Cotto and Williams in his division?

There's no comparison! Get real.

First of all, Williams has yet to be the "best" or attain "P4P status".

Secondly, Forrest (who was the best for a year, not 3 months) was a champion before DLH moved up in weight and after DLH lost to Mosley he didn't want a piece of either which is why he pummeled Gatti and moved up in weight.

And DLH could've fought Wright, who was a champion, instead of Campas or the rematch with Mosley (at the lowest point of his career up to that point, given the three-fight winless streak two losses to Forrest and poor performance at 154 against Marquez).

DLH could've fought Mosley at any point since the fight, but waited until he thought he was catching Mosley at the right time and the right weight.

If you want to criticize Mayweather for fighting Hatton at 147 or for sitting on the sidelines until September when the DLH rematch is supposed to take place, that's fine.

you can't fault ODH for taking a rematch with a guy he lost to.

also, let's remember that Vargas beat Wright.

you can't fault ODH for taking a rematch with a guy he lost to.

also, let's remember that Vargas beat Wright.

He didn't rematch Mosley for THREE YEARS, and didn't do so when it would've been one of the most anticipated fights in the sport...instead, he vacated the division and didn't fight him against until he'd Mosley had lost two fights in a row and looked sub-par against Marquez.

There was a real current of opinion that Mosley was far past it going into rematch.

Vargas had beaten Wright several years earlier, but he was also subsequently KO'd by Trinidad and looked like he still had after-affects against Rivera and Flores.

Wright wasn't a very marketable fighter...but nobody's claiming Cotto-Williams is a huge money-maker.
