For those of you who live in the New York area and have an appreciation for the sweet science, you should do yourself a favor and see Russian Dimitriy Kirilov show off his wares this Thursday at Roseland Ballroom. He is the IBF Jr. Bantamweight champ (http://fightbeat.com/article_detail.php?AT=587#) and among the very elite in a group that includes the finest practitioners around.
On the PPV undercard of Pavlik-Taylor II, fans were treated to a couple of Kirilov’s 115-pound peers, Fernando Montiel (WBO titlist) and Cristian Mijares (WBC titlist). These fighters may never become as popular as an unimpressive top-15 heavyweight, but real fight fans recognize that these jockey-sized gladiators often transform fisticuffs into high art.
Kirilov (29-3, 9 KOs) is one of them.
