Although I HATE Lewis, as I'm sure most of you know here. I always hated Lewis and Hamed.

I hate the way Lewis looks, talks, and fights. I just hate him. Most of all I hate the way he is a solid 6'5 heavyweight, that would frequently fight like a fucking bitch against significantly smaller men.

However, I shall concede he was indeed a great heavyweight. "Definitely" a top 10 all time heavy. On a good day, Lewis was a hard man to beat.

In retrospect I was completely right about Hamed, he was the most overrated British fighter ever, but Lewis was for real.

Him being retired for a few years, and only the occasional annoyance of him "commentating" has changed my retrospective of Lewis.

Part of me changing my mind is actually the state of the HW division now. Wlad seems to be head and shoulders above the rest, but who wouldn't pick Lewis to blast Wlad into bolivian apart from maybe LOK?

He is deliberately underrated, I thought 4 white belt-holders would force Americans to appreciate him more, and to a degree it inevitably has, but they just can't stand the fact that he would defeat, and in most cases, KO, every American heavyweight whoever lived, and in turn, defeat every American boxer who has ever turned professional in the history of the sport:cheer: .

I'm still not a Lewis fan. Some people give figthers props over the years after they retire. Not me I'm still not a fan.

Lewis to me ruled a weak era and was never impressive. My biggest problem is that he had the tools the dominate and be impressive but most of the time he was too cautios.

Doesn't mean he wasn't a good heavyweight. But he gets credit for dominating a weak era like it's the same shit as ruling a talented era. It's not and Lewis is not as great. :dunno:

What's amazing is just how hard Lewis could hit with that right hand. It might be the most powerful punch ever in the heavyweight division.

There was no fighter he couldn't tame with it in the very least, if not knock out.

For example, he destroyed Golota who'd just spent 20 rounds withstanding the best shots Bowe could deliver.

And then he turned Tua into a virtual vagina with the first right hand he landed.

It's a good point and I think it goes for a lot of the media, as well.

Lewis basically finished his career with "scoreboard" over all three, and while you have to go back to the ams in regard to Bowe, it should always be pointed out that the fight was supposed to happen...Bowe had his chances to fight Lewis in the pros and it wasn't Lewis who kept that fight from happening.

Actually, Bowe threw his belt in a bin, just so that he could fight Holy and NOT fight his mandatory against Lennox. Not to mention, as you rightly point out, that Lennox KHTFO in the 1988 games.

Holyfield lost pretty convincingly to Lennox twice.

Tyson paid Lennox a few million to 'side-step' him to unify with Holy in the mid 1990's when he was supposed to be still 'the Baddest man on the planet'. Then, after Holy beat him and Lennox beat Holy, Lennox PLAYED with Mike's tiny, overrated ass for 8 rounds before KHTFO as well.

Yet people still rate any or all of that lot above Lennox. As Double points out, Lennox ducked NO-ONE. In fact, with the honourable exception of Evander, the tough little bastard that he is, the other's all ducked Lennox.

These are FACTS. Indisputable FACTS.

Wrong. Lewis beat Holyfield convincingly the first time. The second fight was arguably a Holy win. Lewis fought like a bitch in the rematch.

Lewis definitely won the first more convincingly, and I would definitely agree that he wasn't as convincing or aggressive in the second fight BUT he still won it. Closer but clear. :nono:

I could see that. The Mavrovic and Mercer fights were probably the toughest distance/decision wins of his career.

The fight came just a week after Holyfield looked dreadful against Vaughn Bean and was heavily criticized for it. Lewis was beginning to make some inroads on Holyfield in terms of public/media opinion. Mavrovic wasn't well known, and was discounted heavily in the American press.

Lewis probably expected an early knockout...but at least unlike say Bowe against Golota, he showed up in shape and was able to gut out a tough fight against a fighter who was awkward as hell.

The hardest fights of his career were probably the Mercer and Mavrovic fights because he was a knockout puncher was forced to go the distance...not something he's used to.

The first McCall fight wasn't really a physically "hard" fight, in comparison. Neither was the Rahman lossm, really...he was winning handily and just got hit in what ended up being the last round. You could argue the Briggs, Klitschko and Bruno fights...but he ended those in the distance.

Against Mavrovic, he had to fight fatigue and his opponent.
