Then the Light Heavyweight division is his for the taking......

Not Johnson, Tarver, Dawson or Calzaghe can take Byrd at this weight, if he is serious.

I hope he is....

I didn't know he already fought at light heavy? How did he do?:dunno:

Let's wait before annointing him the light heavyweight savior. After all he is in his late 30s and moving down two weight classes.

Like I said...if Byrd is really serious about this,...it is fucking CURTAINS for anyone who faces him.

From the video, it seems as if he is aiming towards a fight between Jones and Calzaghe.

And that is alright by me... Good for boxing.

Byrd wouldn't have been as successful at light heavy or cruiser as he was at heavy.
I liked his honest assessment of a Dawson fight.
Byrd will probably have a long career as an analyst if he wants to.

First of all,..great post.:bears:

But let me add this.

If Chris had started his career at Light Heavyweight,...he would have probably been the champ for YEARS!!! And he damn well probably would still be.

Iron chin....great reflexes and handspeed, fantastic defense and reliable stamina.

What else do you need to have to be the Light Heavyweight Champ???

Roy would have stopped Byrd if they met from 1997-2002. Now he'll just outpoint him.

Let me first say, I am and always have been a big Roy Jones guy.

In his prime, Jones would beat anyone who couldn't render him unconcious with a single punch.

But Jones would NEVER have stopped Byrd,...and now he can't even beat him, IF Byrd is serious about this venture.

I can't see Byrd outboxing Roy,especially if Roy doesn't care about the incoming shots and I don't see why he would.

You are really assuming that Byrd is going to be a superman at light heavy. He actually may lose power coming down and he may be drained so his chin may suffer as well. There are a lot of question marks:nono:

I'm not sure Byrd would have been much better than Eric Harding or even Montell Griffin. I don't think he matches up with guys like Dariusz or Roy.

I could be wrong, but I just don't see him ever being a dominant guy at light heavy.

If he kicks ass now, I'm wrong. If he doesn't, it will still be plenty debatable, but maybe he'll give us something more to consider.

One thing you could hang your hat on with Byrd was..that he was hard to hit, fast and landed lots of punches.

Didn't have power? Hell, he was a light heavyweight all along!!!

NOBODY at 175 would have KO'd Byrd. Did you see the shots he took in his career?? He didn't take many of 'em, but the shots Ibeabuchi landed would have KILLED most guys.

NOBODY at 175 KOs this guy in his prime. And maybe now his chin is shit,...but I would no bank on it.

I'm really excited about Chris Byrd fighting at LHW. I think physically he got a lot in him, it was just hard to hang in there with the giants at HW. If he comes down with some power, I'd love to see him fight Tarver and dawson. A Roy Jones fight would be good too, but roy is already shot beyond repair, so it might not be competitive.

You're assuming his performances in recent years are due ONLY to weight....and not to physical decline.

I don't think that's the case, bro.

Also - remember that at LHWT, his opponents will also be faster, quicker, more agile and will have higher workrates....

Being at HWT also had advantages.

Peace.

Yeah he looks healthy and that's important. The statement that stood out the most to me is that he does not have that much mucle content. This could make it easier for him than a RJJ or even a guy like myself going to SMW. As I look him over he's never been solid. He has great skill but I think he's too old and moving too fast into LHW. I can't understand why not Cruiser? He could have been only the third in history to hold all belts there! The fight with Shaun G will be tough on him. If Shaun is focused and follows the Tommy Brooks fight plan he win UD. Should be a great fight for ESPN Level; maybe a classic.

Nonsense.

I weigh almost 200lbs today...and I am faster, have better reflexes and handspeed than when I weighed 140 5 years ago.

Who knows what damage this guy has done to his motor skills by dropping weight his body was very comfortable with.

Who knows how he will react when he gets clocked. He is missing around 35lbs of flesh...thats a lot of armour.

And it makes the heavyweight division look bad...even though it shouldn't. Truth is the best defensive fighter in the division, a man who hasn't weighed 175 for almost 10 years, can't hack it in the division is a sign, for me, that the division is strong enough. But if Byrd tanks at 175, its the Heavyweight division that will pay....not 175.

I liked Byrd, but he was almost as unpopular as John Ruiz when he was champ.

I still remember being in the arena in Reno after his fight with Williamson.
