Dibella interview talking about possible opponents for Jermain Taylor on B-talk.

LDB: There are a lot of possible opponents, it's a matter of whether the fights can economically be made. We're talking economics, we offered a fight to Jeff Lacy, we're trying to see if that fight can be made. Frankly, we're trying to see if HBO wants that fight. There are other guys that are out there. We were interested in a Mayorga fight, we were talking to Don King about it, he said Mayorga's more on hold for Kelly Pavlik or Vernon Forrest. I don't know if that's a possibility, it's another name we've been kicking around. There could be a vacant title situation, or an interim title situation with Carl Froch.

Shit, Taylor is considering Mayorga...

He's back to his former routine.

I have zero desire to see Mayorga beat Forrest again.

Mayorga\Pavlik would be fun though. I'm sure it would be one sided, but fun none the less.

I agree, but it would be expensive as hell, probably to where projected PPV returns wouldn't justify the price tag

Well, I thought Forrest won the rematch and I wouldn't pick Mayorga if they fought this year (I guess that could change after Saturday).

Still, I don't have that much interest in it.

Pavlik-Mayorga would probably be a rerun of Pavlik-Miranda...not interested in that execution.

Mosley wanted that fight at one time...that would a fight to make later this year if Mosley can't get Cotto again...though I like Mosley as an active welterweight.

I'd still love him to KO Duddy. What ever happened with that? I know about the cut. But Duddy is back, so why isn't he taking his beating?

At the post-fight presser Arum was beating him up as bad as his opponent did, but I guess he's since realized that it wasn't televised in the states and has softened his rhetoric on that fight saying he's basically open to it.

I bet it happens eventually, like next year, because it's a knockout and a payday for Pavlik.

Thankfully, Pavlik is a busy champion.

I have NO interest at all in seeing Pavlik-Mayorga. It'd be a mismatch of epic proportions, even if Mayorga was in his prime. The fact that Mayorga is way past it, makes it even more of an epic mismatch. I cant stand Mayorga, but even I shutter to think what Kelly would do to him. Pavlik has his gimme coming up on saturday, I dont wanna see him in another vs Mayorga. I'd like to see him fight Abraham, or Calz next.

Forrest-Mayorga III on the other hand I wouldnt mind seeing, and I'm not convinced that Mayorga wins this time. He's a shell of the guy he was in 03, whereas Forrest isnt too far removed from the guy he was back then.

Now that you mention Duddy, I would love to see a Duddy-Mayorga fight. Duddy is so much of a bum, that Mayorga might actually be able to win that fight. But it'd certainly be fun to watch, considering neither one can spell defense.

If he fights three times a year (and six in two years), he can afford to take some easier fights.

I agree. Theres no prob with the Lockett fight. If he fights Rubio, I'll be disappointed, but wont give him major flack. But if he fights Rubio in September, his next fight after that BETTER be against Abraham, or Calz.

I was discussing it a while ago with Tam, I think a champ should be allowed 1 soft touch every now and then, between tought fights. No problem.

2 or more in a row though, no.

Tam didn't even think a champ should face ONE soft touch ever, amidst tough fights, which i think is silly and unrealistic.

However, Mayo? Even though I like the odd soft touch, if I think it's going to be an impressive beating and KO, this fight is just too one sided.

Not only does Mayo have 0 chance of winning, but he won't even be competitive in the slightest. It's not like Pavlik is even reckless and stupid enough for mayo to have success, he attacks intelligently and patiently behind his long jab.

It would be horrendously 1 sided.

Well, Pavlik's in a pretty weak division so a lot of contenders are soft touches.

Lockett is a complete unknown in the US, but he's the WBO #1 and Rubio is in the top 5 of the WBC and WBO.

They're not great, but they're middleweights and they're active.

So, for "filler" they're not that bad. That used to be how guys cleaned out a division. If he goes on to fight Abraham in the time frame once given (sometime around December or January), then he'll have fought the number one contender (Miranda), the champion (Taylor), the second best champion (Abraham) and two top 10-20 contenders (Rubio probably top 15, who knows with Lockett) in just a couple years time.

That's hardly worth ridicule. He's not bringing guys up from 147 or out of retirment to fight him and he's not inventing new weight classes (well, he did fight Taylor above the 160 limit but that's because Taylor wanted it higher).

One problem with Pavlik's list of potential opponents is that Arum has basically ruled out a Wright fight. Because of it, there really isn't much out there this side of Europe.

I expect, or at least hope, that we would see Pavlik against Abraham sometime next year...unless AA loses to Miranda. Lorenzo is the WBC #1 and could be a mandatory down the line.

Abraham is a good fight. I've never seen Lorenzo so I'm looking forward to seeing him in July.

Basically, Showtime should just invite Pavlik to sit ringside for that card - or Arum - to let us know who he plans on fighting.

Pavlik won't fight Mayorga. I guarantee that fght doesn't happen. It's pretty likely that Forrest does fight Mayorga though, and I guarantee that happens at some point in the near future. Forrest wants it, he's said it since the second loss.

mayorga?

Well, I don't know how much Dibella or King know about what Arum's plans are, becaue Arum sounds a lot more interested in having Pavlik fight Rubio in September which could coincide with the Mexican holiday (whiere Rubio was born).

I think there's a much more likely chance he fights Rubio than Mayorga.

I haven't read Arum saying much at all about Mayorga.

Pavlik. Mayorga needs to make a living and fighting Pavlik is a huge step-up in competition. He'll take a career ending beating in that one.

Fuck Kelly Pavlik. If this is signed, REED you can take my name off of the bandwagon.

Nothing is set in stone as of yet. I think theres a better chance of Mayorga facing Forrest, or Taylor, instead of Pavlik.
