Does Silva's loss drop him out of the #1 spot???

If so, who takes his place???

Lidell?
Shogun???
Arona???

I gotta go with Shogun, he's beaten some high quality guys, but could see and argument for Chuck. I think Wandy will beat Arona in a rematch though...He looked very flat in their fight

By the way, we need more MMA talk in this mother, I aint going to Sherdog, so the MMA fans round here need to step it up :5000:

1. Shogun
2. Lil Nog
3. Wandy
4. Chuck
5. Arona

Babalu got lucky against Shogun and wupp-e-d by Chuck, Couture is not getting better, Alistair always gasses and Belfort, Jackson, Igor, Sak, Randleman etc no longer pose a real threat to the top tier guys.

I dont like Tito - but would love to see him back and ford focused.

after what Arona did to him ?
you mean huggin him to death and win a lame boring decision ?

thats like saying that Tyson couldn't be #1 in the heavweight division if he lost a close boring decision in 1989 to some bum .... it would have just been a setback ( don't say buster cause thats different, buster beat him up, Arona far from beat Wandy up )

Wanderlei is still the best, so he had an off night, so what ?
he didn't get outclassed ... he just couldn't implement his normal gameplan and got dry humped by a lame ass boring fighter.
I know the sayign you're only as good as your last fight, but that don't work for me ... I look @ the last few fights to determine a fighter or a division's ranking

1. Shogun - have defeated Rampage,Lil Nog, Allistar and Arona recently thats some good names to have on a resume

2. Wandy - went undefeated for quite some time but lost recently and dont have as many good wins as Arona.

3. Lil Nog - personal favorite lost a very very close decision against the clear nr 1 have some good wins and no real blemishes other then the close decision he lost.

4. Rampage - Good wins against Chuck,Igor,Busta and Arona but then we have those 3 Chute box knock outs.

5. Chuck - Wins over Randy and Tito are impressive but still lost one against Randy and got knocked out against Rampage.

6. Randy - Below Chuck untill he defeats him in the rubber match

7. Arona - boring ass fighter that cant do anything but lay and pray yeah sure he got the decision against silva I dont give him any credit for the way he won tho.

I'd had questions about his standup for years. His kicks were always sloppy and he was never a good enough standup fighter to be top-30 in boxing or maybe even kickboxing at 200 pounds.

Some do, but it's hard to say how he'd do against Shogun, Lil Nog, or Wand.

Judjing by his performance against Rampage, Shogun could be a particularly tough fight for Chuck. Shogun's another big, strong, active 205er like Rampage w/ more diverse striking.

Lil Nog's ground game is so sick and stand up solid (knockdown of Shogun), he'd be a handful too.

I think Chuck/Wand is pretty much a pick em. Both cats are willing to stand toe-to-toe w/ anyone, so the chance of knockout for either seems pretty equal.

Silvas still the man, he forgot to actually fight aghainst Arona and was still never in any trouble. He'll destroy Arona viciously in the rematch.

Silva destroys Chuck and Shogun too, his strikes are simply too fast and too powerful.

Not really, Rampage has far better boxing skills and bigger punching power than Shogun. Rampage at his best had the best parrying and hand placement defense I've seen in MMA, he also had great knees. He didn't even show up against Shogun and looked atrocious against Ninja in his previous fight, he simply hasn't been the same since that 2nd Silva defeat.

Shogun is a very good striker, great kicks, great knees, good but slow punches and his defense is atrocious. He was outboxed by Nog and hurt several times. Shogun doesn't have the technique/discipline in his striking that Rampage had. Chuck could very well catch him coming in with a bomb and who knows how he'll react? Rampage has an iron jaw so he shook off what Chuck hit him with with ease, Shogun doesn't and we've never seen him get hit by a puncher like Chuck.

Who knows if he can recover?

50/50 fight.

Not sure who the best is, but I know it's not Silva, he has always had a tough time with guys who can take him down and his wrestling isn't nearly as good as Rua's. That's why Rua fucking smashed Arona and Silva spent most of the match on his back getting owned.

Kid Dynamite
10-31-2005, 10:08 PM
Rampage had the best takedowns, physicl; strength and G&P the division has seen, he got knocked senseless twice.

Sakuraba was incredible on the ground and Silva controlled him from top to bottom in their 2nd fight and knocked him out viciously in their other 2 encounters.

Silva totally dominated Dan Henderson on the ground who imo got robbed against Arona.

Silva's ground skills are very good, both defensively and offensively, his problem against Arona was that he forgot to actually fight, in a rematch you'll see the real Silva.

Rua does have excellent ground skills though and is physically stronger than Wand, which helped him against Arona.

Rampage was pounding Silva pretty well at the end of the first round in the 2nd fight. Silva was VERY lucky the round was over. Tito and Arona both beat Silva on the ground. Yoshida troubled Silva very much (twice), Rampage would have beaten him in the rematch if he had him in that bad position earlier in the round. Silva isn't a chump on his back but he is clearly vulnerable to takedowns and being laid on.
