Something about a path and a direction with respect to his boxing career.

Barrera, Golden Boy split!
After a successful five year relationship, Golden Boy Promotions and former world champion Marco Antonio Barrera have amicably agreed to end their association with each other with Barrera having been released from his promotional contract and agreeing to give up his position as a partner in Golden Boy Promotions. "Marco is ready to move in new direction with respect to his boxing career," said Golden Boy President Oscar de la Hoya. "We respect him and want to honor his decision to make a change. We wish him the best of luck and look forward to the prospects of working with him again in the future." Barrera stated, "While I have a great respect for Oscar de la Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions, I have decided that I wanted to take a new path with respect to my boxing career. I am pleased that we will move forward as friends."

It really seems like Morales-Barrera IV is coming next year.

I like MAB and all but what career and what direction?

He's not getting millions of dollars to fight on HBO against the likes of Mzonke Fana (however you spell it) regardless of who his promoter is.

I agree!

If anything he was hooked up with GDB. Meaning he was a partner of the company and could still get big fights whenever he returned.

Yeah, but you have to ask how much is GDB taking off the top? Maybe he knows and doesn't want to pay it.well he was a parner not just another fighter from the stable. It's hard to inmagine he was the only one not happy.

either way I think he loses a major hookup with GDB, whatever he wants to do with his carreer it will be harder on his own.

He might be starting his own promotion.

No might about it - he's already begun promoting, and is currently negotiating a Mexico v. Philipines card with Manny Pacquiao's promotional company.

What I've yet to read is his returning to the ring. He's already turned down several fights, though that could've been just to break free from Golden Boy.

The time is NOW if they're gonna do that. IMo neither is shot yet and it'd be a great fight, but in another year I doubt that'd still be the case.

If they did it now, it would probably take place at middleweight. At which point Arum would promote it as a box-off for Pavlik's next challenge.

Morales can take Pavlik. :warning:

Morales canīt be serious about fighting Barrera again. Heīll lose. He couldnīt even get the decision against that bum David Diaz. Barrera will beat him decisively. He should have taken Barrera more seriously in the third fight, instead of sleepwalking through the first half, then he wouldnīt have this mental problem now.

Morales is far more shot than Barrera, I hope the fight doesn't happen.

barrera can beat guys like baloyi and arthur if he wants another title.

he'd get destroyed by valero though.

Not surprising. MAB has been under the radar since the Marquez decision.

Hopefully it works out for him. Giving up a piece of the Golden Boy Mafia (c) Jake Donovan must have been tough.

Erik Morales will be his first signing.

Some of you seem to be missing something very important about Valero - he's not very good.

He's far too amateurish and sloppy to beat a fighter the caliber of Barrera. Barrera would school him, as would Marquez, and Pacman would destroy him.

Guzman would beat him too, so would all the top 135 pounders, including Diaz.

Guzman should be before Barrera on that list, IMO.

Karl went slightly overboard in his assessment of Valero, but his sentiment was correct in this instance.
