Williams talks hit a snag...

To paraphrase, he basically says it's just being discussed with the only detail being that it would be on October 18th on PPV and at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Surely, there's more details to come.

This one is funny, G. Leon turned down $450,000 for Green to fight Pavlik and asked for over a million. Meanwhile, Lockett is happy with his $250,000. Here's a blurb from the blog...

Green had recently started working with neophyte Greg Leon, who convinced Green that they should have asked for more than $1 million, a number so preposterous for that fight that it would be funny if it wasn't true. That's when Arum, Holden and Leon got on a three-way telephone call, one Holden said he advised Leon against doing. During the call, Leon angered and disrespected Arum to such an extent that he hung up the phone.

Rafael's probably partly upset because websites like Leon's post most of his "news" items in their original press release form days before his Friday notebook hits.

Still, it doesn't sound like Leon did a very good job in this and Green's burned a lot of bridges.

Most of Rafael's news on his notebook are press releases that he holds onto until Friday comes.

I know. He condenses it and changes a couple words and then puts it out after it's already been out for days. Given that most boxing info is on the internet, much of his notebook seems pointless and redundant.

But he does get some original news, so it is worth glancing at...and if you don't want to read sites during the week he does give sort of a recap.

What weight would Pavlik-Hopkins be at, if they did fight?

A 170 catch-weight?

Rafael's writing gets more views than boxingtalk's or anyone else, for that matter, so It's new to most people.

Only to hardcore fans is his stuff old news.

Pavlik's been rumored to fight just about everybody, and been criticized for the smaller fighters mentioned because he's coming off a blowout, so perhaps they're just throwing Hopkins' name out there to even the weight scale out a bit.

It'll probably end up being Rubio.

I'd rather watch Hopkins, Paul Williams and even Allan Green over Rubio.

Arben, do you think Pavlik hits hard enough to knock Rubio's moustache off his face?

I'm only talking about hardcore fans.

I've been in his chats enough to know there isn't that much boxing knowledge being kicked around on ESPN.com.

Greg Leon is such an idiot it's unreal. He lives in a different reality than the rest of us.

Allan Green would get KTFO while looking at his feet by Pavlik. He couldn't even beat Miranda.

In Rafael's defense, he's more of a reporter than an analyst.

green is an ESPN fighter who's lucky to even get 450k. he has how many significant wins? ZERO. knocking out codrington is almost akin to knocking out someone like matt vanda.

Damn in one phone call, G the advisor helped Green burn another bridge, while G the website publisher lost access to one of the biggest promoters in the sport.

That said, he's not the first person in the business to blow it at the negotiating table.

Hopkins is a boring as shit fighter at this stage. I shudder to think of him fighting anyone ever again on TV that would lure me into parting with $50.

I hate to say this, but I think Hopkins can beat Pavlik right now at 168.

no fckng way. with Pavlik's power, Hopkins would revert to stink mode starting in round 1 and would throw about 5 punches a round and fight to survive and lose a wide decision.

Pavlik's manager and Rubio's do not get along at all

Pavlik is one fighter I would be totally sure about beating hopkins.

Pavlik's composure, workrate, reach and power would do a number on nard. Maybe not knock him out, but win a dominant decision, with hopkins doing absolutely fuck all.

If Pavlik KO's Hopkins, I'll pay to see that. Even if it is in delayed broadcast. :crafty:

i thought that was funny, though perhaps not as much to those who don't get the reference (Fat Man Scoop is a DJ).

An even better line: "Saying this story is filled with holes the size of Rafael, would be too kind."

Getting back to Pavlik-Hopkins, looks like Mr. "I'll never lose to a white boy" will have lost to 2 of them within 6 months.

I think $450K for Green to fight Pavlik is too low. I don't even think getting $1M would be all that great, but at least turning it down would justify the criticism Leon is getting for something he apparently didn't even do.
