Watched this last night with the family. Good (wouldn't say "great" or even "very good") movie with a very good performance by James Franco. My fiancee got choked up by the demonstration of the human spirit's ability to persevere.

I think I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't heard so much about it.

Zero replay value.

Anyone else seen it? Thoughts?

I thought it was good. Not as good as cast away, which was also a true story

I enjoyed it. Also liked the score which was done by A.R Rahman, the indian composer.

I really need to watch Castaway.

Do it! It's a good movie. The only unfortunate thing which bothers me about Hollywood is that they're afraid to make a movie where a large part of it doesn't involve dialogue. They can't let viewers identify or just enjoy the characters merely through their actions. Even in Castaway when there's nobody to talk to, the character Tom Hanks plays still finds a way to talk. Much the same with Will Smith in 'I Am Legend'.
Whether it's talking to a volleyball or a dog, Hollywood just can't let a movie progress without dialogue.
As if in real life, people are talking to f*cking volleyballs and dogs and sh*t when they're are no other human beings around! Give me a f*cking break!

"Cast Away" with Tom Hanks was a true story? I never knew that so you must be wrong. :dancingBaby:

There was 45 minutes before Wilson that Hanks went without saying a single word.

I saw it and wouldn't recommend it at all. What probably could have been done as a 30 minute tv show was stretched into an average length film where a lot of boring filler had to be shoved down your throat. So it should come as no surprise that Damien is spot on when he says the film has zero replay value.

I've never heard that Cast Away was a true story, but other than that what do these two have in common? Just seems like an odd comparison.

I don't think it was 45 minutes. From the time Hank's plane crashed on the island to the time when he began inspecting the plane and got the volleyball and draw the face on it and began talking to it, I think it was about 20-25 minutes. I'll have to watch again. But they made that stupid volleyball basically into a human character in the movie and dickhead Hanks got emotional over that sh*t too when he's on the raft and he loses the volleyball and tries to swim after it. Biggest pile of stupidest sh*t ever done in Hollywood. Almost ruined the movie when they pulled that. As if anybody who's fighting for his life is gonna go swimming after a f*cking volleyball, calling and screaming out to it like it's a family member or some sh*t.
Will Smith was talking throughout I Am Legend to a bunch of f*cking dummies and his dog. Whacked!

It will work only if your immersed in the story and taking an emotional liking to the character and his predicament. If you get bored easily and just want constant entertainment with lots of blowing up and stupid sh*t, then it's not for you.

I didn't know that castaway was a true story. Interesting.

127 hours was solid. Man that was one shitty situation to be in. At least in Castaway the dude could walk around and lie down and sleep properly.

Completely disagree. If you're the last person in the World and you have a dog with you then you're going to talk to the dog. Who doesn't talk to their pets anyhow, even not being in that situation?

It was just one man in most of the movie. The camera on him all the time.

Dogs are clueless. They don't understand anything you're saying other than "Sit" or "Get him!"

Don't treat me like I'm some Transformers type movie fan. I love drama's more than any other genre and this movie just sucked despite the fact it fell in that category.

There was no dialogue other than the time he was having flash backs and/or stupid hallucinations. The filler they threw in there to kill time was stupid and boring. Look I loved Castaway so that proves I can like a film with very little action or dialogue but this film just sucked. There's a reason it spent about 20 minutes in the theaters and then went right to video.

The movie was in theaters for 4 months
It was 23 awards and had a total of 133 nominations.

That isnt a movie that sucks. That is just a movie you think sucks. There is a difference.

He had to drink his own piss. He had water for about 12 hours. did you watch the film?

Yeah he had water for more than 12 hours. He drunk his piss the last few hours he was there. In the movie, his water lasted him 4 days.

Damien

He only had water for more than 12 hours because of the fact that he only took one small sip each day. He was obviously very dehydrated.

It also rained so he managed to save some rainwater.

Tom Hanks' predicament seemed kinda fun to me. I wouldn't mind having an adventure like that but only for about 1 month. Just to see if I could make it for a month on an island using nothing but whatever nature has in store. Even though Hanks didn't rely solely on nature. Some of the tools he had, he got from the plane.

It didn't actually rain. He was just imagining that it was raining because he was so dehydrated.

It didn't rain at all? I can't remember. I thought it did. I knew he was imagining things at times and there were dream sequences but I'm sure there was a real rain spell in there. I'll have to watch it again.

Yes..but it was a miracle that it did. It wasn't a 4 day supply of water. You're just being difficult, padna.

Don't get me wrong though...the tom hanks scenario would certainly have driven me out of my mind. Solitude for 4 years is awful.

But stuck in a hot crevice where you can't lie down at least and you have your hand crushed and pinned and you have minimal food or liquid. HELL!

4 years on an island without pussy. How would you cope?
