Revisionist horseshit. Lewis was slumped on his stool, practically needing mouth-to-mouth resucitation in his corner before the referee and the doctor foolishly denied Vitali the chance to finish Lewis off...

More revisionist horseshit. Lewis retired because he was scared of Vitali, not because he was nearly 38, fighting at a career-high weight and had over $100m in the bank to feather his retirement nest...

Yeah, get this, Lewis looked tired going to his corner after the round....because the HBO cameras followed him there.

Let's compare how he looked to how Vitali looked going to his corner the round before.

No, it's called being cut. It tends to happen in a fight.

No, a dry-heaving Lewis was rescued by the referee, but way to spin it.

In warranting a rematch, yes, very much so

Controversial stoppage, punch stats and scores (which do matter by the way) all favoring the guy who lost the fight. All reasons for an immediate rematch.

Happy? No? Of course not. Lewis's nuts are not currently in your mouth.

Your simple mind seems to be missing my very simple point. I never said Lewis did not deserve to win that fight. I never said it shouldn't have been stopped. I said that there should have been an immediate rematch. Lewis ducked it. As a Lewis fan you're just going to have to accept this and move on. Your hero ducked a rematch and robbed the fans of the last meaningful HW title fight.

History is boring...sometimes it needs a good revision....or at least some bad memories to make it more interesting.

nah, Feebs, he cut himself shaving... it had nothing to do with the immense right hands crashing onto him leaving him staggering around like a drunk near the end of that round

Vitali was never fucking "rescued". Ever. Don't be a kant mate. He was ready and willing to come out for the next round. No need to make things up.

Not sure what your point is. Of course he wanted to get paid for the rematch, but it was a rematch that nobody wanted to see.

He turned down 25 million to rematch Vitali. Fact.

I didn't say it was a bad stoppage. It is a controversial stoppage however because Vitali still had fight left in him. He didn't want it stopped and, because of the state of Lewis in his corner, it seemed like we could've had a definitive winner in the next round or two.

there was nothing controversial about it

a guy "having fight left in him" has nothing to do with anything... a severe cut or injury is a reason to stop a fight, a very good reason at that

100s of guys have been stopped with fight in them

Joe Frazier was ready to come out for the 15th in Manilla. Was he not rescued, then, seeing as he was near blind and shipping life-changing shots? :dunno:

A fighter can be rescued from their own bravery mate. You know this as well as I do. As I said, I do not question Vitali's heart and willingness to fight. But no man can fight against a fighter like Lennoz Lewis with a face like that...

Yet he wanted to fight Tyson again and get that money. But the 25 million to fight Vitali again? No thanks, I'll take retirement.

We GOT a definitive winner. The winner was the guy whose bones were not exposed to fresh air as a result of crunching right hands.

Lewis was better than Vitali, yet he could only win 2 of 6 rounds and wanted no part of a rematch. Right. Definitely does not warrant a rematch. No sir. Lewis is better.

Are you sincerely comparing the two? Joe Frazier at the beginning of the 15th at the end of his career, in 125 degrees of humidity in Manila ??? He was as close to death as a man could be.

Yeah, the same definitive winner that was receiving an ECG in his corner. Real definitive. Definitely did not warrant a rematch.

What part of 'Lewis was 37, nearly 38 years old' do you not understand? Perhaps you prefer your fighters like Ali or Holyfield, slurring words and suffering brain damage because they fought as long as the money was there?

So Lewis was too old to give Vitali a rematch, but not too old to give Tyson a rematch?

How old was Lewis for the first Vitali fight? Why was it okay for him to take that fight, but not the rematch?

Another well placed Lewis right hand could have rendered Vitail perminently blind. At the end of that 6th round, Vitali's career rested on a knife-edge.
