War for The Planet of the Apes is headed to take the #1 spot at the box office this weekend with an estimated $57 million. While that is a very good number, it is lower than the previous film debut 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' which grossed $72.6 million. The new chapter in the Apes franchise is just a bit more than the opening numbers of the first reboot film which took $54.7 million. This might indicate either that the interest in this franchise is starting to dwindle or maybe is all just part of the 2017 Year of the Rotten Revenues Curse as month after month, film after film, box office numbers this year have been lower than last year and in some cases lower than in many prior years with only a couple of exceptions. So far this summer has been one of the worst in many years for Hollywood.

While Caesar reigns, Spider-Man: Homecoming 's web broke and is plunging down precipitously with a 73% drop which is one of the worst drops in Marvel's 16 films history and THE worst second week drop of all the 6 Spider-Man franchise. Yes, the film will probably take close to $48 million (or less) this weekend, but that isn't the numbers that both Marvel & Sony were expecting for the well reviewed, well marketed film that had an excellent debut last week. From celebration last weekend it has gone to post-mortem conjectures of what the hell went wrong. The only logical conclusion is that last weekend the hardcore fanbase went in droves to embrace the film, BUT now it seems that the general audience remains somewhat apathetic toward yet another Spider-Man film. Blame franchise fatigue. The film will not lose money and will make profit, but the final numbers will decide if Spidey's screen life will continue with more sequels or only be limited to cameos in Avengers films.

In the third spot Despicable Me 3 will add $19 million to its arks while Baby Driver might get $8 million for a three weeks total of $73 million. Expanding to more screens and climbing to the fifth spot is the rom-com The Big Sick which elbowed Wonder Woman out of the top five for the first time after six weeks.

Final numbers will be released on Monday afternoon.

In this case you may be right. I saw nothing redeemable about this film.

Sly is a Marvel fanboy, so if he says its shit, that says a lot.

It looks horrible, but "like I said before", I think the entire Spiderman franchise is pretty shitty.

Weekend actuals are here and 'Spiderman: Homecoming' numbers are a bit lower than originally reported: instead of $48 million it took $45.2 million. Sony is blaming Marvel right now.

Totally unrelated to Spiderman, but while we're on the topic of Marvel... I feel like I'm the only one who that Deadpool was complete shit.

    Not IMO.

I thought Civil War was OVERRATED.... but it was decent movie.

I can't even say Deadpool was decent. I thought it was a steaming pile of shit.

You´re not the only one: I didnt like but to be fair, I didn´t like the character or Ryan Reyonolds´ self-aware sense-of-humor and frequently breaking-the-4th-wall.
And the whoe stigma around Deadpool is that its a character that only hardcore Marvel fanboys like and you´re not in on the joke, if you dont like/get it...
