I'm talking about original music scores, not Guardians of the Galaxy play list type of soundtracks. Inception is a great one for me. Hans Zimmer is fantastic in general. Also love the Tron:Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk
I'm a big fan of movie soundtracks, especially of the jazzy drama variety from guys like Sigour Ros and Clint Mansell. I have several soundtrack songs on my iPod. Some of my favorite film soundtracks that I pulled a few really good songs from: Jerry Maguire Romeo & Juliette Crash 7 Pounds Drive Vanilla Sky The Social Network The Great Gatsby Little Miss Sunshine
Thank you for this thread as I am a life long original movie soundtracks collector. Here some I consider the best among the ones I have: 'The Good, the Bad & the Ugly' by Ennio Morricone. Who doesn't instantly recognize that 'whistle' and don't think of Clint Eastwood as the Man with No Name? "The Magnificent Seven" by Elmer Bernstein. Epic, marvelous, absolutely brilliant! John Williams music for "Star Wars", "Superman: The Movie", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Raiders of The Lost Ark" remains his best work regardless of what the Harry Potter fans might tell you. Jerry Goldsmith "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" til this day continues influencing that franchise music. His soundtrack for "Planet of the Apes" was haunting and fit the film's perfectly. John Barry 'Goldfinger". All the Bond films had great music, but Barry's Goldfinger theme rose the bar very high. Alan Silvestri's "Predator" music is in my opinion what made the movie work. Had it had a different soundtrack the film would had fell flat on its face. Randy Edelman's soundtrack for 'Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story' was better than that film deserved. Much so that it has been used almost non-stop for every other movie trailer that wants to evoke a feeling of grandiose human drama.
Ennio Morricone "The Untouchables" Howard Shore "The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings" Maurice Jarre "Doctor Zhivago" Max Steiner "Gone with The Wind" Giorgio Moroder "Cat People" & "Midnight Express" Vangelis "Chariots of Fire" (contains my all time favorite interpretation of 'Jerusalem') That's a great one too! Basil Poledouris opera-like music elevated this film to another level. A few months ago I was enjoying in youtube a series of videos from a live concert from 2006 which was plain magnificent. I wish I was there in that concert. (the conductor dressed as a 'black ninja' is Maestro Basil Poledouris R.I.P.)
nice picks good point about predator. as soon as they land in the jungle that sound track is constantly going
The music to Conan lends a huge feeling of scale to what is essentially a throw away sword and sorcery flick. Haven't watched it in years but the main theme and the traveling score have stayed with me. One of the best examples of a film score elevating a film in my opinion.
Indeed. It is a great soundtrack. My favorites tracks are 'The Orgy" and "Riddle of Steel/Riders of Doom". Never get tired listening this music. I need to add to my list Gato Barbieri's 'Last Tango in Paris' whose main theme became one of the most recorded and rebooted film themes from the 70s (my favorite versions are the ones from Tito Puente & Mongo Santamaria). Another great soundtrack is the one from "The Last of the Mohicans" whose theme 'Promentory' is just as perfect for this film and a beautiful piece of music.
John Carpenter: Assault On Precinct 13 Halloween The Fog Escape From New York The Thing They Live Simple but most effective use of a synthesiser in movie scores...
Halloween theme is a classic, but don't give all the credit to Carpenter as Pino Donaggio was the real composer.
