Not necessarily better than the first films but a worthy sequel...maintaining a high standard.

    Superman 2
    Aliens
    Jaws 2
    Godfather 2
    Rocky 2
    Back to the Future 2
    Karate Kid 2
Xmen 2 (Better than the original)

    Avatar II is pretty good.

As is Legend II: The Tosh & Wailer Years

I think the obvious choice is Empire Strikes Back.

As much of a fan of the genre I've always been, I never cared for Dawn of the Dead. Just way too campy and corny.

This may be the worst 30 seconds in horror movie history....

To be fair I probably like it because it was the first one I saw as a kid - I liked the while siege-in-a-mall aspect.
Was probably a bit black-comedy-seque in parts?

Campy over-the-top attempt at improving on Manhunter
    Jodie Foster: hideous
    Anthony Hopskirt: laughable

Silence of the Lambs wasn't a sequel. I guess you're thinking it's a sequel to Manhunter, but it's not.

Two different film adaptations of two different Thomas Harris novels, altough yes, both feature Dr. Lecter.

Manhunter is a very good movie (mainly due to the performance of William Peterson), but in all honesty.... SOTL blows it away.

In Lambs, we're talking about one of the best movies of the last 28 years.

And yeah, Sly is trippin. Jaws 2 wasn't a great sequel. Jaws 2 is ALRIGHT, I mean, there's been faaarrrr worse sequels... but it ain't quality either. Doesn't hold a candle to the first.

The Color of Money is a good call. Very good movie, however, the original (The Hustler) imo is one of the best movies ever made.

My memory of Manhunter is very fresh... I rewatched it on Xmas Eve.

"Like I said before", it's very good.... underrated, but SOTL is better in every way.

Btw Sly, X2 is actually an example of the sequel being BETTER. X2 was the probably the best movie of the franchise.

    On this one, I'm not.
Hopskirt played Hannibal Lecter with a passion of the 1940s Universal horror movies.
And that's not a bad thing!

But Brian Cox was fucking psychopathic extreme!

Cox played the role well... but Hopkins made Lecter into one of the premier villains in cinematic history. There's no debate on who was better.

He never said great sequel. He said solid to worthy and both Jaws 2 and Karate Kid 2 were solid films.

Blade 2 was better than the original, I thought.

    Ip-Man 2.

    Mechanic Resurrection

I completely disagree. I watched Blade several dozen times and to me Blade 2 & 3 had zero replay value and were terrible films that missed the mark the way most of today’s DC films do. In fact I’d rather watch any of the recent DC films over one of those two Bland sequels.

Yup, I said that in my opening post. It’s definitely better and yes it is the best film in that franchise
