What type of fights do you rewatch the most?

The Barrera-Hamed fight is one of my favourite to rewatch. I absolutely hated hamed...and what made it worse was when he started chanting in Arabic and bringing religion with him into that ring that night. I can watch Barrera continually knocking his head back on his shoulders and embarrassing him with superior boxing acumen, all day and all night.

To be fair, fighters invoke God all the time. So it's not that hamed brought religion in that bothers you. It's that he brought Islam in. Correct?

 

It's one thing for a guy to say he's a Christian or Muslim or whatever...it's another to use the ring as a platform to preach. Hamed decided to preach...fuck him. I was glad Holyfield lost to Lennox Lewis as well for the same reason. So it's not just about Islam.

 

That gospel song Holyfield came in to in the first Lewis fight was a bit of a banger.

Of course the arabic chants were for religious reasons. Still doesnt change the fact that Hamed is arabic (and english), and that it was a very minor part of his entrance. Yet, the 30 seconds chants were far too much for most bigots.

It's incredible , and very telling, how such a minor thing is always brought up whenever this fight is mentionned

It's the arrogance of it. I've never before or since seen a fighter grab the mic and make such a proclamation before a fight. He thought the world revolved around him. He thought he was the face of Islam to the world. Before a fight, when you're about to try to bash a guys head in for money...is not the time for evangelism.
