    I preferred Footloose at the time, but Flashdance was the originator of the genre, and grossed more

    Still, we got Kevin Bacon out of Footloose.

    I saw them both as a kid. I liked them both but preferred Footloose as it appealed to younger audiences more. Flashdance was more of an adult movie.

    BTW, I thought Saturday Night Fever was the originator of the genre.
