He's not a boxer, he's way too sloppy and clumsy to be that. He's not a kickboxer, he's only ever thrown 2 kicks in the past 5 years so he can't be that. He's not a submission expert, he's shown zero ability there. He's not a wrestler, he's too sorry in that department to be such.
What is Chuck Liddell? From the looks of it, he's a very very tiny bit of a few things. A bit of sloppy boxing and a tiny bit of kickboxing and a very tiny bit of wrestling.
That makes him a tremendous mixed martial artist and former 205lb lightheavyweight champion of the UFC but in hindsight, looking at his style of fighting, he's more like what I'd consider the phrase "a jack of all trades and master of none."
He's not particularly good at any one thing, but he seemed to make it work to bring most of these one-demensional wrestler types to their knees.
So for that he deserves an applause.
Would he ever beat Rampage Jackson though? Nope. Jackson does everything a lot better than Liddell, including taking a harder punch. With the influx of Pride fighters, Liddell most likely has seen the end of his road. At nearing 38 years of age, the 'IceMan' chapter is closing. I can't say I'll miss it. But he still deserves accolades for his accomplishments.

Liddell is done, time to retire. It will only get worse for him from now on. Especially with the pride guys coming in.

Chuck looks terrible, I have always said it.. from a "boxing" point of view it is HORRIBLE..

but.. he can crack, even though the punches are thrown so so wrong.. he is throwing them at wrestlers that dont know how to defend againest them

and.. if he is good at one thing it is defending the takedown..

Right...I gues we can safely say that Chuck gave life to the standup game in the UFC....since there was a time that almost everybody was choking and fighting in the ground...in chuck you have a KO artist, as limited as he is

Great points.. Chuck has made an MMA living out of making guys that want to go to the ground stand up and throw punches. Chuck isn't particularly gifted at throwing punches, but he was usually a little better and hit a little harder than his opponents.

However, with the real multi-dimensional talent being infused into the MMA game, Chuck is over..

Chuck is the quintessential street fighter IMO. Very basic but very effective. Of course guys with superior technique were bond to beat him as Quinton Jackson showed twice, but he feasted on wrestlers like Jared feasted on subways.

Apparently Liddell's next fight will be against Wanderlei Silva. That should be fun.

Wanderleis wide ass shots would be his down fall against chuck. It also wont help that his chin looks crap [although its only decent in the first place] after mirko gave him that beating.

His wrestling back ground is the thing that helps him avoid being taken to the ground.

Chuck is a kickboxer. He was also a wrestler.

Do any of you guys in this thread even watch MMA?

I figured that but he's certainly not a Groundnpound type of fighter. That's why I said he's the "quintessential street fighter", I think his style would be highly effective on the streets. I think I was misunderstood, I wasn't suggesting he's some sort of bar fights freak like Tank Abbott.

Chucks power got him where he's at....that and great takedown defense....Guys see that sloppy ass boxing style, and want to mix it up with Chuck, and thats usually when they fuck themselves over....Tam Tams said it a million times, guys shouldnt get stupid with Chuck because thats usually when they get knocked out....Rampage never really got out of control with Chuck in the first fight, and neither did Coture in the fight he won against Chuck

I know that's what his background states but in the way he performs, he sure doesn't fight like a boxer, kickboxer, or wrestler. He's probably into Jeet Kune Do. His philosophy is "use what works, discard what doesn't." Punching and takedown defense got him far. Bruce would've been proud.

like said before chuck was just better then those wrestlers at hitting and not getting hit, did u see and shamrock and baroni fight even fighters who people say have a good punch, dont know how to move their fuckin head on defence and stand there and eat shit for no reason looking to throw their shit, chuck moved around these stiff fucks who need to set their feet to be ready to throw a punch, and catch these dumb asses when they arent ready and floor them
