Boxing World Champion Kermit “The Killerâ€￾ Cintron got past his latest title challenger with ease, looking powerful in knocking out Walter Mathysse, a challenger with a record of 26-2.

Likewise, UFC MMA champion Sean 'The Muscle Shark' Sherk did his part also and defended his UFC lightweight title for the first time at UFC 73 with a unanimous decision win over Hermes Franca, a challenger with an 18-6 record.

Now that all that "preliminary" business is out of the way, it’s time for UFC president Dana White to make good on his boasts that he controls the best fighters in the world, and step up to the challenge laid down by IBF World Champion Kermit Cintron for a winner take all match with the UFC champion.

A Sherk - B.J. Penn fight would be great, but a two-sport challenge match with Cintron would be much bigger, world wide.

Like Sean, Cintron also has other lucrative options at his doorstep too.
This fight however, would bring the worlds of Mixed Martial Arts and Boxing together for a blockbuster event that will certainly outsell UFC 73, and more importantly, will put an end to the tiresome debates about which type of champion will win.

That fight will mark the first time a decent Boxer has ever stepped into the rules of Mixed Martial Arts, and because the challenge has been thrown down, the buck stops here.

    Lets' roll.

Both sides will talk a ton of shit, and the fight won't ever come close to being made.

Yeah no need for Cintron to fight in the UFC. He makes way more coin boxing... and if they tried to match the money he wants, the UFC top dogs would be PISSED.

Sherk would throw Cintron around like a damn rag doll. This'd pretty much be the death knell of boxing.

uh huh. So what secret information do you have about Cintron that suggests the result would be any different? Its all academic anyway cause Sherks been caught roiding & Cintron's signed to fight on the Vargas undercard.

From what I've seen, Sherk is completely useless when his takedowns are stuffed. GSP demonstrated this. If Cintron is as seasoned in wrestling as he's reported to be(NJCAA level), then with a few months training in a decent MMA camp with most emphasis placed on takedown defense and keeping the fight standing, Sherk would be fodder.
A fighter with good standup and a takedown defense can go far in MMA. A fighter with the hands of Cintron and with his base of wrestling, he'd be a good fit in MMA. It's surprising how many fights tend to end on the feet these days.
The wrestlers are experiencing a dillemma. Outside of takedowns, their methods are limited. It's no wonder why Sherk dragged the fight with Franca for 5 very boring rounds. He didn't have any other ability on the ground other than to keep Franca pinned to the mat. A fighter who can block takedowns will always give the wrestler a lot of trouble.
That's why more mma fighters, particularly Fedor, are praising a good stand up game. Having only one aspect in your repertoire won't always cut it.
