[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]In a first for MMA, two fighters who competed against each other in the same UFC title bout have both tested positive for steroids.[/FONT] [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Drug test results released today by the California State Athletic Commission show that Hermes Franca and Sean Sherk were found to have banned substances in their system for their July 7 fight in California.[/FONT] [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Both lightweights have been suspended one full year from the date of the title fight and fined $2,500.[/FONT] [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Sherk tested positive for Nandrolone Metabolite, the same anabolic steroid Royce Gracie was suspended for.[/FONT] [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Both "A" and "B" samples from Sherk's test confirmed the positive Nandrolone test. At 12 ng/mL, that is twice the an athlete's level and six times the average person's normal level.[/FONT] Will Sherk be stripped of his belt?

Yeah, he seemed like one of the surer bets for steroid use. I wonder if ESPN will actually report this story or bury it. It's intereting to note how many athletes are getting caught in California.
I think its strange both fighters are tested positive in the same match and these are fighters with no history of failing test.
Well, Franca has already basically admitted he used them...for an injury. Maybe the CSAC has better testing.

With Sherk out for a year, that puts the Ki-Bosh on his title defense against BJ Penn in November. I'd assume it would be Penn against someone else for the vacant title. The question is, who? I'd guess Spencer Fisher, but maybe Frankie Edgar (War Team Rhino!!!) or Tyson Griffin. TFK
