Tim Sylvia isn't very good compared to the rest of the top heavies.

He is big,...but not especially skilled.

Any guy that size has power based on their size...but Tim is slow, not world class on the ground....and his conditioning is mediocre.

Vera is a guy who is an overachiever, well rounded, confident and really seems to believe in himself.

I think that Vera stops Sylvia with knees to the body.

Tim has beaten a decent list of competition, despite not being particularly skilled. He's huge obviously and that works for him, has a very long reach, can hit hard enough to KO most, and has enough knowledge to keep himself in the fight. He's defeated Arlovski, Monson, and some other top fighters.
He's not a walk in the park for anybody regardless of how much hate he gets. Yes, he's lumbering, awkward and ugly, etc.
Vera hasn't really shown me anything to get any kind of praise and he's never beaten anybody worth a damn IMO, save a completely washed up Mir.
I think Sylvia is the favourite. Vera doesn't bring anything unique to the table which guys like Arlovski and Monson didn't bring.
Sylvia should handle him. But who knows what'll happen in this f*cked up topsy turvy world of the UFC? :dunno:

Sorry, who has Vera fought worth a damn in his career? He's never been in a title fight, he's never beaten a top fighter who was in his prime. The hell with him. He's not getting any praise unless he beats Tim in the cage. Then he'll get respect.

Not sure what you're talking about, Vera already has a shitload of respect from almost all of the MMA community. He's dispatched Scherner, Mike Whitehead, Frank Mir, Justin Eilers, & Assuerio Silva, all very good opponents. By the way, he didn't just beat them, he destroyed them in impressive fashion with 1st or 2nd round finishes.

Not sure what the major knock on Vera is around here, unless it's the fact that he has a bit of an ego. I'd have an ego too if I was 8-0 against good competition, especially if I didn't let any of them get out of the 2nd round.

I don't know if those guys are exactly top talent but I'll give him tremendous credit if he can make sure that Tim doesn't see the 2nd round.

Justin Eilers...and I'm a fan of his...is a C level fighter at best. Whitehead isn't even that. The Frank Mir that Vera beat is not the same Frank Mir that beat Tim Sylvia.

There's nobody on Vera's resume that can be considered a top fighter.

Fans of Vera are like football fans who think the untested backup QB can do a much better job then the starting QB who happens to be struggling, even though they have nothing to base that knowledge on.

Sylvia is a 2 time Champion who has gotten up off the floor to win the title, has KO power in his hands and his feet, has a great takedown defence (in spite of what you saw against Couture), and has been in the octogon with much better fighters then Vera.

Sylvia wins by KO in either the 1st round, or early in the 2nd.

Pretty much. He's got power unlike Valuev though. Vera is about a hundred times more well rounded than Tim.

I have to go to a wedding on Saturday, so unfortunately I won't get to see Sylvia beat Vera unconcious.

I just don't see any way Vera wins this fight.

I honestly don't see how you can't. MMA is the sport of instability and upsets. No one gave Serra a shot over St. Pierre. Randy over Chuck. Griffin over Shogun. We could sit here and come up with 20 more fights just like those three. Its just about a sure bet there is always one upset on every card.

You have a point, so instead I'll say, on paper, Sylvia should win this one pretty easily. But stranger things have happened.

REED has Only Seen HIGHLIGHTS of Both Fighters, but it SEEMS to REED that Sylvia's SIZE is More of a DISadvantage than a Benefit...

Dude is a BIG ASS TARGET...It's Probably Harder to MISS him, than to HIT him:lol: ...

No Other "Logic" than that Behind REED's Pick, but he'll Roll w/Vera...

Like I thought, Tim won this one pretty easy.

Vera is garbage. He needs to drop to 205, but that division is stacked already.

Vera's a piece of crap as a fighter. The stupidest f*cking strategy I ever saw a fighter employ. Actually the second stupidest. Babalu's strategy against Liddell in the rematch was the stupidest ever.
So what was Vera trying to do exactly, Arturo? Clinch Tim and keep it on the fence? :dunno:
Only 4 kicks thrown in the whole fight by Vera? F*cking joke! I don't need to see this guy ever again in the octagon.

he was vastly overrated. He beat guys like Assuerrio Silva and Justin Eilers. Silva I think is winless in teh UFC, and Eilers was coming off two brutal KO losses when Vera beat him. He also has a win over faded Frank Mir, and Fabiano Shurner (sp), who I don't think even fights in the UFCc anymore.

He beat a few decent fighters and everyone started hyping him up, for some reason. :dunno:
