It could happen sooner if the UFC is willing to work with M-1 but anyway

In Dallas, Texas, to corner several Xtreme Couture fighters, including middleweight Frank Trigg (Pictures), Randy Couture (Pictures) said he hopes to fight Fedor Emelianenko (Pictures) as early as October 2008.

"Unless the UFC wants to do a co-promotion with M-1 and make the Fedor fight happen, I'm going to have to wait 'til my contract expires," Couture told HDNet's Ron Kruck. "I have no intention of breaching that contract; that expires in July. My employment contract expires with them in October. So I would assume the soonest you'd see me fight Emelianenko would be in October."

Couture gave up his standing as UFC heavyweight champion on Oct. 11 via fax from South Africa, where "The Natural" was on location shooting a feature film. The two-division champion also resigned from his roles as ambassador for the UFC and on-air personality during the promotion's broadcasts.

While Couture sits on the sidelines for another 10 months, Emelianenko, widely regarded as the No. 1 heavyweight in MMA, will make his live debut on HDNet Fights with a return to the ring on New Year's Eve against 7-foot-2, 350-pound novice Hong Man Choi

So best case scenario is October. Not bad. Would be better now, but wtf. Any idea who the UFC has in mind for Randy in July?

Would be nice if it was true, but seems like one of those things that's too good to be.

I'm actually starting to wonder about that myself, LOK. Still, who's a better wrestler? Couture or Lindland? Lindland won a silver medal whereas Randy was an alternate. However, Randy also is susceptible to getting knocked out, and Fedor has KO power in each hand. The longer it takes, the worse it looks for Randy.

Couture is getting old and before somebody says "never count Randy out" he's aging and on a physical decline. By next october he'll be 45 and the long lay-off will fuck with him. Sure, Fedor's fighting a can, but at least he's fighting.

    some valid points here..

I think if this fight were to be competative it should have happened.. I agree a long ass lay off is the last thing Randy needs

Lindland may be a better wrestler, Randy would kill him in a fight though. Lindland is a Middleweight, Coutour is a LHW/HW.

He's only got 1 MMA fight and it lasted all of 30 seconds against some dude nobody has ever heard of. That's isn't exactly the quality opponent the supposed best in the world should be facing. He's a one fight novice, he doesn't deserve to be in the same ring as Fedor.

Just imagine if UFC signed Fedor, and gave him Choi as his 1st opponent. The same UFC hating Pride Elitists that are all excited about this fight would be crucifying Dana White for making this matchup.

Choi isn't a guy Fedor should be fighting is the bottom line. I'm sure we agree.

You boys need to quiet down with the disrespect towards Fedor. The facts are the facts. Randy Couture was offered $4 million by Bodog to come over to Russia and get murdered by Fedor. Randy declined and instead signed a new contract for MUCH less money over 4 fights with the UFC which he has now chosen not to honour.

I disagree. If he beat Fedor convincingly, who would deserve to be put ahead of him? It's not as the sport is a 150 years old, it's a very young sport. Randy would be the GOAT if he were to beat Fedor.

    randy's lost alot too though

that would be Fedor's only blemish

one lost to Coture doesnt look as bad as two to chuck and what, 5 or 6 others??

By that logic no one is the Goat because too much fighter a beat fighter b talk can come up

You talk greatest of all time based on accomplishment and what they meant at the time they did it and its a toss up of about 5 or so guys with absolutely no right or wrong answer....

Fedor's greatness is only diminished because he doesnt have a ton of marquee fights.....Nog, Cro, Barnett
