Default Miguel Cotto vs Michael Jennings for the vacant WBO Welter Title

This bout will be held on February 14, 2009. If both Cotto & Margarito win their bouts, the rematch will be in the summer. I have never watched Michael Jennings fight. Is he good? From the information I have received from people that live in Caguas, Puerto Rico, Cotto has turned into a complete drunkard. He gets drunk everyday and needs to be carried even by strangers. If this is true, then his career is over. Even if he beats Jennings he should NOT fight Margarito again. In fact if he is not handling his defeat well, then he must retire.

Last time I checked, Jennings was the WBU champ or some other such nonsense...anyhoo, I've seen him fight a fair few times, and he had the makings of a good prospect once upon a time then he lost to Young Muttley (another domestic level fighter, albeit an entertaining one) in a pretty decent scrap and sort of decided to settle for having not very much.

His fight with Ross Minter was a barnstormer, and typical of Jennings; he likes to trade, has pretty good power and has a pretty solid chin but is extremely hittable.

If Cotto has anything left after the Marge fight, he'll use Jennings as target practice for as long as he pleases, though Jennings might well hang around for a good few rounds and might have his moments if Cotto stands in front of him for too long and decides to trade.

Jennings has absolutely no more than a 5-10% chance of winning. And that's being generous. Should be an entertaining one though.

There are even rumours of a Cotto-Pacquiao fight after Pacman gets Hatton out of the way. Cotto better look good against Jennings, but if he is drinking, then forget it.

gets hatton out of the way

pacquaio won't get past hatton and he'd get a severe beating from cotto at welter if that match is ever made.

Manny is gonna fuck Hatton up... but as of right now Cotto would have to be favored over Manny.

Cotto blows off steam between fights like most fighters do, but when he trains he really trains very hard, and fighters can sweat all of that out and it won't affect them after a little while as long as they are still relatively young like Cotto is.

Remember what Sam Langford said: "You can sweat oat beer and you can sweat oat whiskey, but you can't sweat oat women."

Its an American thing Steve... when I was a kid growing up in new york city in the 70's people lived in small apartments but... they all had a bar somewhere! My parents had theirs on a shelf... it had whiskey rum vodka, etc... for a drink when dad got home from work... or two or three or nine.... fast foward to now and NO ONE would be caught dead with a bar in their apartment. People would think they were an alcoholic!

There is no sense of moderation in our thought processes. If Cotto has an alcoholic beverage in his hand he must be an alcoholic right?

    Sad to Hear that...

Wasn't Cotto having MARITAL Problems Prior to the Margarito Fight as Well (Not to Mention the Ongoing "Issues" he's BEEN Having w/Evangelista)????...

Add a Devastating LOSS to All of that & it's Probably PUSHED Cotto Over the Edge...Hopefully that Info is False, Cause he can STILL Carve Out a NICE Career for Himself, even if he CAN'T Beat Margarito....

I am inclined to believe it is true. Even before his loss to Margarito, Cotto was known as a heavy drinker in Caguas. I read comments from local newspapers in P.R. that he is having alcohol problems and just last night a friend of mine that returned from a trip to Puerto Rico informed me that a friend of his from Caguas witnessed two teenagers picking up Cotto from the floor in front of a liquor store just last weekend. But who knows? Julio Cesar Chavez was known to be a heavy drinker through out all his career as well as Roberto Duran and still they had great careers. But contrary to them, like you pointed out, they didn't had the problems cotto has, nor suffered such a bloody beating like Cotto.
