Default Why does every non-boxing fan call him Merriweather?

Has anyone else noticed how frequently non-fans make the mistake of calling Mayweather, Merriweather? What the hell is up with this? It's not a big deal. I get it. But it's not an isolated mistake either. People on the radio make it. People at work. Nobody outside of real boxing fans seem able to get this guy's name right. It's pretty funny actually.

They call him "Merriweather" as they barely know who the fuck he is.

Damn I dunno where you live, but where I'm at everybody knows who Floyd is, and says his name properly. They might not know much bout boxing, but they know Floyd.

I've never heard anyone call him that. He's probably the most known active boxer on the planet right now so I can't see why anyone would screw up his name.

Is this another attempt of yours to use sarcasm as the basis for making your point or are the people you work with really morons?

    Exactly.

Then again, I used to hear people call, Holyfield, "Hollyfield." And there's no disputing his wide-spread fame.

Still, I agree. For most, he's a passing sound-byte, a flash somewhere on a bar's plasma screen. Nobody "really" knows who the hell he is, or what he does. That's probably to PBF's benefit.

It's not just people at work. It's people everywhere. Like I said, on the radio, even on tv. If you read the thread, I ask, "is it just me?" Because I'm fully allowing for the possibility, that as in your case, not everyone has noticed this.

But no. You have to be a fucking prick about it.
