    vs.

We all know that Lennox Lewis was a big guy, good right hand, basically a straight up and down fighter with no special effects.

Tom Johnson, according to the Cyber Boxing Zone, was a splendid champion of great skill, surprising strength, coolness of disposition and temper and the highest order of courage, durability and ambition.

Johnson is also credited with restoring respectability to the sport back in the late 1700s.

Who do you guys like here? I like Johnson by decision under Marquess of Queensbury rules. Bare knuckle rules? Johnson TKO 60.

    Total mismatch.

I like Tom Johnson's highest order of courage, durability and ambition any day over Lennox and his glass chin.

Can you imagine what would happen if Johnson used his coolness of disposition and temper to land a shot square on Lewis' chin? With no gloves?

    Good night.

And if case you guys are thinking "Man, Lennox Lewis was a lot bigger"... keep in mind, back in 1789, Johnson went 62 HARD rounds with the 328-pound Isaac Perrin.

I'd like to see Lennox Lewis beat someone that big. In his dreams, maybe.

Exactly. He wasn't one of these modern day pampered fighters that get manicures and are fed caviar between rounds.

Johnson had to kill a Triceratops with his bare hands just to avoid starvation.

This is a snap from the Johnson/Perrins fight. Notice how these men basically make Lennox Lewis look like a little girl. Perrins wasn't just big, but he was obviously very well conditioned.

If this was a court case this is all the evidence you'd need. Case closed.:bears:

Yeah, no knowledgeable boxing fan would even have to think about this one. Too bad it's not an open forum to the public. At least we'd get to laugh at the odd moron who'd pick Lewis.

You don't believe he killed a triceratops with his bare hands? There were witnesses.

No, you're right. In fact, I think TJ is the reason the WBC outlawed the use of coolness of temper and disposition.

He was 238 pounds, not 328. Frankly, I think some of you are underrating Lennox. I think he would make it an interesting contest for the first few rounds, before Johnson's coolness of temper and disposition took control of the fight.

Jesus, they had 300 pound men back in 1789? Athletic ones too?

Agreed, I mean I hate Lewis but he is really being underrated here. It's not like Tom would straight up p0wn him, it would be pretty even till the halfway point, before Johnson's pedigree/coolness etc took over.

238 lbs, not 328. 6'2" 328 lb athletic men don't really exist today, let alone in 1789.

How often did they touch gloves compared to Mosley?

These behemoths of yesteryear were both noble of bearing and bold of character... a ferocious combination in the ring, as we all know
