Thread: Matthysse Vs Soto

    Default Matthysse Vs Soto

I didn't even realise Soto has now moved up to 140. It seems he crushed that scrub Morales fought in his first comeback fight.

Who wins? Soto is better, more skilled, more experienced. Mattysse is bigger, fresher, more powerful.

    Could be a decent scrap.

I kind of feel that way too. I've never thought Soto was quite as good as advertised. I think he'll struggle against a bigger, fresher, more powerful fighter.

You never know though, Soto is the more skilled, more experienced fighter.

This will be a great fight IF Soto can take Matthysse' shots.

I think the problem for Soto is he'll be outgunned. I don't think he has the firepower to discourage Matthysse, especially at 140, where Lucas has fought guys that hit a lot harder.

Soto couldn't even outgun Urban Antelope, who Rios destroyed.

And obviously Soto is no Marquez in the boxing department, so he'll be in trouble if Matthysse just walks him down with no respect for his power.

You can pick Mathysse without trashing Soto you know. The guy eas champion at 126 and probably peaked at 130. If he loses to Mathysse it doesn't mean he wasn't a bad-ass champion.

Matthysse is a bridge too far (and big) for Soto.

I knew you'd be in here to defend Soto

I agree he probably peaked at 130, and 140 is likely a step too far.

Notice I did say I think Soto is the better, more skilled fighter, I don't see how I trashed him?

I'm just saying I've never rated him as highly as some. He's good but not quite elite, and unlike say, Marquez, probably not good enough to overcome a significant size and youth advantage.

Soto is/was a waste of talent...I always though he was skilled enough to be in at worst a B level Marquez/Barrera, but he never live up to it.

He's a slight notch below Barrera, let alone Marquez.

But I agree, he was good enough to be a more prominent fighter than he has been. He's always been a low key fighter, never been in one remotely big fight actually, it's weird.

Fair enough. But I actually think his skills are underrated. And I think his penchant for exciting fights, almost all of which he won, goes under-appreciated.

Tell that to his promoters/mgr who seemingly have used him as a pawn and failed to get him big fights with pac, morales, marwuez and mab.

    Agreed.

Antillion pushed him to the limit.

Matthyse is a MUCH bigger and better version of Antillion.
