Dark Shadows This remake of the cult tv soap opera is your typical Tim Burton movie: visually eye candy without much depth. The decision of turning the serious source story into a campy comedy wasn't entirely bad if Burton would had injected more humor. The best jokes are the ones you saw in the trailer. Aristocrat Barnabas Collins is cursed to become a vampire by the witch Angelique in 1772 and then is loose again in 1972. For me this was pure nostalgia since Burton did recreated well that era with the silly fashions, slangs and use of popular songs. Johnny Depp is still in full Jack Sparrow mode here so besides being a vampire he is not that different from his over-the-top performance as the pirate. Eva Green as the witch Angelique does a nice job but her over-use of a raspy voice becomes annoying at times. The film is better than what critics are saying, but it is not among Tim Burton's best films. Worth watching once since it lacks a real bite. 7/10

BTW the movie came in second place this weekend with a disappointing $28 million. Blame the Avengers juggernauth and the bad reviews, plus the fact that it turned off its hardcore fanbase with the comedic approach.

    Ditto that.

    And for two reasons.

    1.) It looks completely uninteresting.
2.) I hate Tim Burton movies.

Hardcore fanbase of what ? Goofy vampire movies? There is such a thing ? They go to see the movies in groups ? I wanna see this group of hardcore fanbase heading to a theater and buying popcorn and soft drinks.

The original tv series Dark Shadows has a cult following. They hold conventions and the surviving members of the cast show up for autographs. That is why is the first and only soap opera whose entire run, 1225 episodes, have been available on DVD. I thought you knew that.:egypt:

Tim Burton sucks since...fuck, I can't even remember. Mars Attack was the last enjoyable film he made.

What about Beetlejuice? Michael Keaton was riot in that one. Plus the Day-O scene was a brilliant.

Just watched this film. You get laughs here and there, mostly from Depp scenes getting used to the present day. The rest of the film is bland, the plot has no direction and you couldn't tell if it's a comedy, horror or what. Weak script, bad film. Happens when you got a bunch of retarded corporate guys running holywood. The whole film is plagued with in-camera advertising from Mcdonald's, Wheaties, etc.

I agree with this... overall I thought the movie was mildly enjoyable to watch until a really atrocious ending. The ending ruined what was only an average movie at best anyway.

Out of that list I'd have to agree with these as likeable.

    Mars Attacks
    Batman 1 & 2
    Beetlejuice
    Pee Wee's big Adventure
    Sleepy Hollow

These I never saw and never will:

    Ed Wood
    Edward Scissorhands
    Big Fish
    Sweeny Todd

    These I saw and detested:

    Batman Forever
    9
    Planet of the Apes

I always thought he did The Crow too which I would have added to the hated it list, but he didn't.

Tim Burton did not directed 'Batman Forever' nor "9".
