Skyfall finally opened at USA movie screens and easily broke the previous franchise opening record this weekend. The prior record belonged to Quatum of Solace with $67.5 million. Skyfall took $88.3 million becoming in the process the fourth best opening of the year just behind Marvel's The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and The Hunger Games. The new Bond film, in its fifty anniversary, also has shatter some overseas record making so far $428 million or a total of $518.3 million worldwide. In the second spot Wreck-it Ralph held very well even in the face of the Bond juggernaut. With only 32% decline the Disney animated film grossed $33 million in its second weekend for a ten days total of $93.6 million. Denzel Washington's Flight also held well with only 40% decline from last week and took home $14.7 million in the third spot. Argo moves to the fourth spot thanks to Bond and manages to add an additional $6.6 million to its bank account. Taken 2 managed somehow to remain firmly in the fifth spot with $4 million even while facing direct competition from James Bond in the spy/action genre. The film has grossed $131 million so far and has a good chance to reach the same numbers of the first film. Meanwhile Steven Spielberg's Lincoln opened in only 11 screens but still landed in the 15 spot. The historical film faces its biggest challenge next weekend when it opens wide. James Bond will be waiting, gun in hand, ready to shoot Lincoln down.

Some critics think that the Adele song also helped the film to bring more people to the movie houses.
