In a weekend were most americans stay glued to the tv watching the Super Bowl, one unlikely film took the first spot at the box office with just warm reception. Warm Bodies capitalized on opening on a weekend were there wasn't much to offer as counterprograming for the female audience and the trailers 'Twilight-like' romantic angle and comedic tone was enough to persuade the mostly female audience (60%) that didn't care about football to make it #1 with a not-so-spectacular,but decent $20.3 million. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters fell from #1 to #2 with a 53% decline and $9.2 million, which is no surprise die to the bad reviews, so-so word of mouth and the superbowl. In the third place Silver Linings Playbook ascended from #4 to the tune of $8.1 million for a total so far of $80 million. Of all the academy award nominated films this is the one who has benefited the most from its nomination. Falling from #2 last week to #4, Mama had a 48% decline with $6.7 million for a total in three weeks of $58 million. So far this film is the most successful horror film since 2011's Paranormal Activity 3. Losing significant steam and momentum, the political thriller Zero Dark Thirty will not reach the numbers Argo made. The film made $5.3 million for a total in seven weeks of $77 million. It is still a hit since it only cost $40 million to make, but it has disappointed in its lack of box office results. Debuting in the sixth spot, the latest Sylvester Stallone actioner, Bullet To The Head, had the worst opening on any movie on 2000 or more screens. With its $4.5 million it is an even worst debut than Arnold's The Last Stand (which btw crashed to the #27 spot in its third week, grossing only $11.9 million in allits run versus its $45 million budget). It is clear now that The expendables cast (Stallone, Schwarzennegger & Stahan) can only lure audiences when they team together, but their solo films are mostly ignored. But if Stallone is feeling blue this weekend, imagine how Al Pacino will be feeling right now: his film, The Stand Up Guys failed to even crack the top 15 films in its debut and crash & burned at the #17 spot with just $1.5 million.

I'm not sure if the three failures from Arnold, Sly and Pacino is a result of them getting too old for their fans, or a result of them starring in films that didn't look worth a damn.

    Stallone should stick to writing/directing/producing.

Assuming you read them from IMDB, it doesn't tell anything these days. Every big-budget movie gets great first reviews there, since the production company produces these ratings. This is a fact

Teenagers going to the movies on Friday night don't want to watch a bunch of 80 year olds playing bad asses.

The last stand and Bullet both are not bad movies at all. Both suffered from a terrible lack of advertisement.

Bullet To the Head got PLENTY of advertising. There were tv spots all the time.

Yep, I saw all 3 of the trailers a few times but not one of them interested me. The Stallone one looked like it held the most promise and likewise Stallone looks a lot less geriatric then Arnold, Pacino and even Bruce Willis.
