Identity Thief came almost out of nowhere and like the titular character unsuspectingly stole the #1 spot at North America's movie box office with a whooping $36.5 million. The movie could had performed even better if it wasn't for certain non-fish Nemo. The comedy could finish its run with over a $100 million and is the first bonafide hit of 2013 that is not a residual from 2012. In the second spot Warm Bodies took home $11.5 million for a two weeks total of $35.6 million or a little less than what Identity Theft did in 3 days. Side Effects debuted in the third place with a so-so $10 million gross which is a poor opening for its director Steven Soddenberg. In the fourth place Silver Linings Playlist continues performing like the sleeper hit of the season with $6.7 million for a now total of $90 million. It will easily surpass the $100 million mark by next weekend. Falling from #2 to #5 this weekend, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters continues underperforming with $5.7 million for a total of $43 million. The film will need to gross $100 million to break even. Mama continues to slowly built its reputation as the most successful horror film of the last two years. With $4.3 million and a total of $67 million, while not a blockbuster, it is a true horror hit that doesn't rely on young sparkling vampires in love.

In other box office news, The Hobbit: An Unexpected journey will crack the $300 million domestic mark sometime this week while it slowly approaches the $1 billion worldwide, making it the second most successful Tolkien adaptation just behind LOTR: Return of The King. Skyfall is now the #7 all time worldwide most successful film, pushing The Dark Knight Rises one notch behind it. Mr. Bond, enjoy your Martini: shaken, not stirred.

it has nothing to do with the box office report, but I just want to share another Mariann Gavelo pic.
