Another good looking realistic sci fi flick I'm looking forward to. Could sci-fi be making a comeback?

New "detached" scene from the film. Looks pretty cool.

Exactly. Since 1968 it has never left.

Looks like "Open Water" in space. That said I liked the first "Open Water", Cuaron is a very good director and I bet this blows Europa Report out of the water.

I was referring more to the limited amount of good sci fi films that get released. There just aren't that many being done. And what I meant by sci-fi was the kind of films that actually take place in space.

Well you have to make that clear, because sci fi isnt limited to space. That being said, there has been some decent space movies over the past decade.

    Moon
    Serenity
    Star Trek
    Star Trek return to darkness
    The Fountain
    Oblivion
    Voices of a distant Star
    Prometheus
    Pandorum
    Revenge of the Sith
    War of the worlds
    Avatar
    Love
    Man of Steel
    Sunshine

Then you have movies that are coming out this year like

    Riddick
    Gravity
    Europa Report
    Ender's game
    Elysium
    Edge of Tomorrow

And lets add the fact that space is not the only thing that make a sci fi movie.

I know sci fi isn't only space based, however that was what I meant when I made the comment. There just aren't enough quality space films going to the movies. I mean the more serious based stuff like Prometheus, or Gravity.

Well considering you havent seen most of space movies i listed, i would say you dont get to say there isnt enough quality space films.

Uh, I'm pretty sure I can. I was talking about the amount being presently made, as in there aren't nearly enough being made today in comparison to other genres.

Besides, 2 of the films I missed (Serenity & The Fountain) is because I never heard of them. The reason I never heard of them is because they were flops. Voices of a distant Star is a freaking foreign short animation so who cares. I was going to watch Love but decided to pass based on the low IMDB score. I'm still going to see the new Star Trek film once it opens here in Japan. The same with the Superman film which I would argue doesn't even belong in the sci-fi/space based film category but rather under super hero or action adventure.

So a movie has to be a financial success or you will never watch them? That is kind of ridiculous and you will be missing out on many excellent movies. Serenity is based off the TV show firefly and was written and directed by Joss Whedon, the director of Avengers. Hell i will even go so far to say that his single movie/series was one of the main reasons he was chosen for Avengers. The movie and the show are fucking great. But you go ahead and miss it because society didnt pay money to watch it in theaters.

Prior to The black swan, the Fountain was considered Aronofsky's best film by hardcore arnofsky fans. Its a low budget movie but just some amazing work. The first time i saw it, i was confused. But the second time i saw it, i was blown the fuck away. And the movie along with the soundtrack (which you will FUCKING LOVE) will stick with you for years to come. But hey, dont watch it because the masses deem it not worthy.

btw, if you do decide to watch The fountain, dont listen to the soundtrack first. you will do yourselves a disservice. listen to the music for the first time with the images of the movie. You will not regret it.

When I watch his films, I just see George Clooney and not the character he's pretending to be.

Caught this, this afternoon at an IMAX 3D showing. Despite several obvious plausibility issues, a brilliant visceral experience has been created with this film. I'm guessing Bullock gets nominated for this movie. This time she deserves it much more then when she did that rich white lady saves a magical football negro film a couple years back.

A quick 90 minute running time for Panchy and Lb for Lb. :bears:

It's a quiet movie for the most part, but the action scenes are so well done and so tense, you need a break for the next one.

    9/10

Gravity set a new all time record for an October release with an opening of $55.5 million. It has a 98% fresh score in RottenTomatoes and critics just loved it. The film is also the best opening ever for both stars Bullock and Clooney.

And then you'll come back here and tell us that is the best movie you have ever watched. Btw Alfonso Cuaron is better known as the excellent director of 'Children of Men', "Little Princess' "Y Tu Mama Tambien'.

Why would I fall asleep? I've never fallen asleep on a movie before, at home or in the theater. Also I don't have a problem with films that are long, as long as the film is good.

I just like to throw you two together into random sound bytes. Funny thing is, I think Panchy is flattered by it, but it just pisses you off.
