Looks promising. I was scceptical but after seeing some trailers and after learning Guillermo del Toro directed this movie, I turned more optimistic. He is the director of Hellboy.

Agreed, I'm skipping it altogether. It looks like it's for kids and I think the older I get the less and less I can sit through shit like this.

Looks basically like an Americanized version of a Japanese Mecha movie.

Transformers meets Godzilla meets Independence Day

I like Del Toro, but this just doesn't inspire me.

Just Got back from this. VERY GOOD MOVIE. Very solid.

It wasnt just fun, but it was well made. You care about the Characters and it's written well.

Not even close to Transformers in anyway. Go see it. Have fun because you will.

It just seems so ridiculous that we would make these big robot suits to fight monsters. Lol

The monsters are huge. And the monsters keep evolving. But there is a twist as to why. But the movie is good without the monsters. It's not 2 hours of monsters. It's 2 hours of story telling done well.

Lets not forget this is Guillermo Del Toro we are talking about here. Not Michael Bay

Pacific Rim made $38 million in its first week while the production costs are $180 million. Looks like the movie is going to bomb, but not as bad as Lone Ranger. That movie made $29 million in it's first week and the production cost was $250 million.

Yep. Is official. The movie has bombed. It still might do some decent business in the foreign market, but nothing to prevent the studio suit that greenlighted this project to get fired tomorrow morning.

Because there are such things as residual effects when you use nukes. Things like nuclear holocaust, nuclear fallout, radiation poisoning just to name a few. Usually it's the idiots who don't understand these kinds of things that are the first ones to yell let's nuke em!

PACIFIC RIM director Guillermo Del Toro as a child apparently was one of those kids who loved all those Japanese tv shows like Ultraman, Ultra7, Space Giants and dozens of other anime shows with humans inside giant robots battling monsters. The premise is silly and even if Del Toro tries to make it serious those robots vs monsters fights look corny as hell. There is more destruction here than in Man of Steel so by the end of each fight on land there will be few survivors in those cities almost completely destroyed in the aftermath. There is not much of a story and the actors don't have much to work with to deliver any kind of memorable performance. Toward the end the film looks like a remake of Independence Day with giant monsters instead of aliens complete with the 'historic speech', self sacrifice scenes, etc. It also has a few story loops and loose ends that you think it will be addressed by the end, but instead the film simply ignored its own plot points. Nice try Guillermo, but no cigar this time. 6/10

A few more reviews. And the reason i am posting these three is because i want you to see the pattern. Each review spoke about how this movie had a good story and great action. Direct contradictions to my good friend Panchy.

Goldar 2013 aka Pacific Rim? Come on pal, even Transformers did this better. The whole Giant Robots vs Giant Monsters fighting is, uh, silly?

If you think Transformers was a better movie than pacific Rim, we really have nothing to debate. My only advice to you would be to check the reviews by professionals and casual fans. And compare them to that of Transformers.

Transformers is awful, but its robot fights were mildly more entertaining IMO. Pacific Rim is a better film and by that I mean in comparison to Transformers as a whole. I am checking the top critics reviews and wow, some were very cruel and the even the best reviews are pointing to the weak plot and ridiculous and corny premise...I feel vindicated!:hammert:

The fights scenes in Pacific Rim blow Transformers out of the water. Its not even a close comparison. I think maybe you are too old for this kind of movie panch. Too lout and such. Lets not forget that you are the same guy that dozed off in man of steel. Might be time to retire

I think you are right sonny, :eek:ld:...I am losing my hunger...no longer getting the eye of the tiger...time to hang the gloves and let a younger generation review their own mindless popcorn summer movies...I also admit having dozed at the climax of Pacific Rim :boring:, but it is that I watched way too many Ultraman & other 60's anime with the same premise and wasn't that impressed with those monsters destroying Hong Kong (maybe if it was Tokyo...). Still a score of 6 out of 10 isn't so bad, is it?

There was a good reason not to nuke them. The first and weakest kaiju took a week's worth conventional attacks and two tactical nukes to kill and destroyed San Francisco and the surrounding area in the process.

The movie takes place 12 years after that and the kaiju are much tougher. Plus they are toxic and blowing them apart has some very bad side effects. Can't say much more without giving away some major plot points.
