Just finished this movie. It was so good. It's a crime story with some of the best Martial Arts you could see in it. The director did a good job and is improving with each movie. It had the Infernal Affairs feel. The main Boss at the end was completely bad ass. Definately check this movie out. It's better than the Original IMO, which is also very good. This is arguably one of the most violent movies i have ever seen. And word is that Tony Jaa is signed on for part 3, which should blow minds. 7.5/10.

I ewatched the original based on LOK's rating and I thought it was comically bad. Ridiculous OTT violence as only Korean movies tend to do and really stoopid martial arts fights that just go on and on and on...
Not on that level of movie making. Old boy is one of the best movies ever made. This is just a good martial arts movie
The Raid 2: Berandal If you are expecting a somewhat similar plot to the first film, be aware that this one does not goes for repeats. Instead we get the further adventures of Rama, the cop from the first film, going undercover and infiltrating Indonesia's mob families which culminates in breathtaking action/martial arts scenes of the most brutal, violent, gory kind ever put on film (like the girl wielding two hammers in a train battle). There are parts were the plot drags for a while, but still this is very good action film. 8/10
Yeah I thought it was very well done. Had a South Korean feel to it. The director, which is an American, is clearly getting better. Next film is suppose to have Jaa in it.
Wait a second...didn't I posted my review in that other thread, you know, Rate the last film you watched? :scratcher:
I did not like the first movie. I could never sit through the whole thing in one go. I thought it was loud, and claustrophobic, and noisy, and pointless. The Raid 2, I loved. It had a bit more of an epic Hong Kong movie feel too it. The stunts had a much more open and spatial feel to them then the first film, and the story was actually pretty good while the acting was surprisingly top notch. The cinematography and overall camerawork was stunning with a lot of the shots looking very Scorsese inspired. 8.5/10
Finally someone watched this. I actually liked the first one, but only on second viewing. If you look at the movie Dredd, which was very good, it was a complete rip off of the Raid. Interesting enough The Raid movies are made by a welsh film director Gareth Evans, who CLEARLY is improving his craft. I agree with you 100% that the second movie seemed more like an Epic. It was just better all round from the script to the cinematography. Apparently the Raid 3, will have Tony Jaa in it. And the star of The raid Iko Uwais is currently filming starwars and will be making a movie with Ronda Rousey soon. But tell me that snow scene was not epic.
I'd be disappointed if Jaa is replacing the original guy, unless he's playing a mostly non-verbal villain or something like that. Jaa is more athletic, but Uwais is clearly the better actor. The whole cast was actually pretty good. I imagine this is what Gareth Evans noticed when he went to Indonesia. A mostly ignored film scene that had a lot of hidden talent. I'd like to see the guys who played "Uco" and "Eka" in other stuff to. Especially "Uco". He seemed like he was pretty fluent in English and other languages and would have little trouble crossing over.
It's actually the other way around. Just because Raid was released first, people think Dredd ripped it off.
It wasn't the other way around. I'll back the rip off comment, because i dont think the writer just copied it. What i meant was that the movie is very similar. The Raid was done first tho. Written first too.
I dont see any evidence of that. That seems like Rumors the Dredd fan boys cooked up and it has taken off. In the few interviews i have seen with the director of dredd, when asked that specific question about Dredd being written first, he doesnt answer it. We honestly dont know when the Raid was written. And even if Dredd was written first, nobody has has access to the script and things can be tweeked. Again, im not saying that Dredd ripped off Raid, im just saying it's a very similar. Who know, there are a few 80s movies that have a similar theme, maybe they both were influenced by those.
