Just finished this movie. I found it to be very good. Done very well and very creepy at times. 7.9/10
I am curious about it. I might check it out this week whenever I can get a respite from the holidays madness.
I didn't like it. It was done well but I just didn't dig the story and where it went. The girlfriend didn't care for it either. It wasn't a horrible movie but it did give me that "why did I watch this?" feeling you get after you sit through a bad film.
It was labeled a horror movie, but it was a pretty damn good Drama if you ask me. I thought the acting was really good. Spoiler Alert. Hightlight below Being that the whole babadook thing was basically her depression in life.
I watched it and agree with Anthony: this is a solid film with excellent performances by the leading actress and the boy that plays her son. Keeps you guessing the true nature of the story events.
Psychological horror/suspense movie. Basically an allegory of single parenthood with elements of "The Shining", if Shelly Duvall were the main character and Jack Nicholson was already dead. Nice little horror/drama. I didn't find it particularly scary, though it was interesting, and all the women in my house were hiding behind their hands for much of the film. Take it for what it is, and don't set your expectations anywhere near as high as some of the reviews I've seen and you should enjoy it. The two leads were very good, but I found a lot of the other characters were trumped up caricatures. It wasn't clear to me whether they were just portrayed this way in the Mom's addled brain, or if everybody was just an asshole (except for 2 minor characters who showed some compassion for the family). 7/10
