Al Pacino was originally supposed to play Captain Willard in Apocalypse Now. He turned it down.

Dougray Scott (who?, exactly.) actually filmed scenes as Wolverine for X-Men before quitting the role to play the villain in Mission Impossible 2. Oops.

Pacino was also offered Hans Solo. That would have been weird.

Oh yeah, he was also offered De Niro's part in Goodfellas. That would have been awesome, imo

Pacino is shit at picking roles.

Thank God Costner turned down Shawshank. He's nowhere NEAR the actor of Robbins.

in his younger days, he had as much range as anyone

"Dog Day Afternoon", "Serpico", "The Godfather" ... You couldn't have three more diverse characters

I think Pacino would have been very good in Crimson Tide. However, not as good as Hackman.

Pacino Probably Comes up to the Middle of Denzel's Chest...They'd have had to Film ALL of the Arguing Scenes SITTING DOWN, to Make the Shit Believable:lol:...@ Least w/Hackman, there was a Hint of Genuine PHYSICALITY, Where his Character was PREPARED to Stand Up to Denzel if it Came Down To it...

LOL. Good point. Plus, VERY FEW, if ANY actors in history play a villain as well as Hackman.

Harrison Ford based most of his career in picking up roles other actors didn't land:

STAR WARS: actors that auditioned for Han Solo: Pacino, DeNiro,Kurt Russell, Nick Nolte, Christopher Walken & Stallone.
Indiana Jones: Spielberg & Lucas wanted Tom Selleck, but the producers of Magnum P.I. refused to let him go fearing he might become such a big star they'll lose their show. Selleck is still bitter about that.
Patriot Games: Alec Baldwin was supposed to return as Jack Ryan in this sequel to The Hunt For Red October, but when he demanded more money the producers answer was 'we can get Harrison Ford for that amount you ask' and they did!
The Fugitive: again Ford landed a role that was supposed to be for Alec Baldwin. Not surprisingly, Baldwin is not very fond of Ford.

Eric Stoltz had filmed like half of 'Back to the Future' when Robert Zemeckis & Steven Spielberg fired him because he acting was 'too intense' for the light tone they wanted for the film. They called Michael j. Fox and the rest is history.

Molly Ringwald rejected 'Pretty Woman' because she thought playing a prostitute will hurt her image with fans.

Will Smith passed playing Neo in 'The Matrix'.

Steven Spielberg wrote 'Close Encounters of The third Kind' with Jack Nicholson in mind as Roy Neary. Nicholson turned it down and Richard Dreyfuss almost bullied Spielberg to give him the role when every A-list actor passed the role.

The producers of 'Superman: The Movie' wanted Robert Redford or Paul Newman to play Superman, but director Richard Donner fought mightily to give the role to an unknown skinny actor called Christopher Reeve.

    Interesting Info on Harrison Ford...

REED's Gotta Give You PROPS on your Film Knowledge & Keeping this Newer Forum LIVELY:clapagain:...

Alec Baldwin Should Blame his OWN EGO, Instead of Harrison Ford...Molly Ringwald was the Quintessential SAD, ARTSY Bitch..."Pretty Woman" Would have FLOPPED w/Ringwald as the Star, as Opposed to the Jovial, HOTTER, Party Girl, Julia Roberts...

REED's ALWAYS Favored Going w/UNKNOWN Actors, when Introducing a Comic Book Character to Film..."Superman" Would've Been CORNY as Hell w/Newman or Redford in the Lead Role...& They've have Looked as BAD as George Reeve Did in the Old School, Black & White "Superman" T.V. Series....

    Nice Post, Bro....
